Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,
I’d like to call your attention to one very special event: On March 18, we will host our first-ever Spring Festival, bringing our Junior and Senior continuees in Atlanta back to campus for an afternoon of fun activities, reconnecting with faculty and staff, and socializing with current Oxford students. It will be great to see all four Oxford classes together on the Quad.
I hope you will be able to attend the afternoon’s festivities. If you have maintained relationships with juniors and seniors now on the Atlanta campus, I encourage you to reach out and invite them to the Spring Festival reception for faculty, staff, and students from 4:00–6:00 p.m. and reconnect with former students. I invited our continuees back to campus with this video on our new event page.
Many students had their time on campus cut short by the pandemic, and we want to offer them an opportunity to engage with all of us at Oxford in a way they might not have been able to during their time here. I am grateful to each of you for making Oxford a place our students are proud to have attended. Your outreach to them will be vital in encouraging them to return—because for them you are the people of Oxford they want to see!
Best,
Doug

Oxford College Organic Farm Grant
|
|
The Oxford organic farm is offering a grant to support faculty who want to incorporate the farm into their curriculum. Applicants are encouraged to consult with Daniel Parson and consider the various ways that the farm could be included in the course (a visit to the farm, class visit from Daniel, etc). Selected applicants will receive $200-300, depending on the nature of the farm component (and pending budget approvals), into their professional development accounts after the course is taught.
To apply for this grant, please respond briefly (250 words or less per question) to the below questions in the body of an email addressed to Sarah Fankhauser (sarah.fankhauser@emory.edu) by April 8. Your plans do not need to be completely finalized, and you are encouraged to discuss your plans with Daniel Parson prior to submitting the application.
- Which one of your courses will incorporate the organic farm and when do you plan to offer it? How often do you plan to teach this course with the farm component?
- How do you plan to use the farm staff as a resource?
- Please describe the farm-related component (or components) that you want to develop. In your response please:
- Describe the specific goals you have for students and their learning in the farm component.
- Explain how you will connect the farm to one or more of the following within your field or class, as applicable: social, political, cultural, or scientific theory or method.
- If applicable: Explain how you might achieve these goals in a remote or online environment.
The vision of Oxford’s organic farm is to provide a meaningful experience on the farm for all Oxford College students. We want to create an environment where all Oxford students may understand the importance of a healthy food system. We also strive to reach beyond the borders of our university community and into the larger Oxford and farming communities to provide opportunities for education, research, and open dialogue.

Southern Circuit Film Series: My Name is Pauli Murray update
|
|
The online screening dates for My Name is Pauli Murray have been changed to Sunday, Feb. 27 through Saturday, March 5.
Told largely in Pauli’s own words, My Name is Pauli Murray is a candid recounting of a unique and extraordinary journey. Fifteen years before Rosa Parks refused to surrender her bus seat, a full decade before the U.S. Supreme Court overturned separate-but-equal legislation, Pauli Murray was already knee-deep fighting for social justice. A pioneering attorney, activist, and dedicated memoirist, Murray shaped landmark litigation—and consciousness—around race and gender equity. As an African American youth raised in the segregated South—who was also wrestling with broader notions of gender identity—Pauli understood, intrinsically, what it was to exist beyond previously accepted categories and cultural norms. Both Pauli’s personal path and tireless advocacy foreshadowed some of the most politically consequential issues of our time.
Register to watch the film here.
