A note from the Dean
Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,

I hope you each enjoyed the holiday break. We have much to look forward to in this new year, and I can’t wait to see what we will accomplish together.

Next week we will welcome a new class of Spring Start students, and there are many opportunities to support them as they join our community. Orientation runs from Friday, January 12 to Wednesday, January 17. You can register to help with move-in here and with the Oxford Olympics here. See the volunteer section below for more details.

On January 17, we will hold our annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at 7:30 p.m. in Old Church. Please join us for this inspirational service to start 2024. You can read more about this year's program and other King Week events across Emory here.

Warmly,
Badia

1/14: Oxford Olympics (7 - 9 p.m.)
OxOlympics is a treasured Oxford tradition where students compete in various (very silly) challenge/games with their Orientation groups. We need at least four volunteers to facilitate each of the game stations. Volunteers will receive dinner and training before the event and a T-shirt to wear during the event. Please sign up here by Thursday, January 11 to volunteer.
Book Club Discussion: The Sun Does Shine
On January 16 at 7:00 p.m., Oxford Teaching Professor of English Stacy Bell will host a Zoom conversation about Anthony Ray Hinton's debut memoir, The Sun Does Shine: How I Found Life and Freedom on Death Row. Hinton was Emory's 2023 commencement speaker. The book tells his story of being sentenced to death row due to mistaken identity and his subsequent time in prison. Hinton's hope lived on despite the darkness around him. You can learn more and sign up for the conversation here.
