Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,
Yesterday was the last day of Black History Month, and I am grateful to all who hosted or attended the many events and gatherings throughout February—but especially to Dr. Wade Manora and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for putting together such a robust program for the entire campus community.
Earlier today, we held our weekly Community Hour in the Student Center, where students, faculty, and staff came together to play a version of musical bingo! Our next gathering will be after Spring Break on March 22.
I hope everyone is looking forward to Spring Break next week. A special thanks to those of you who are leading or participating in Alternative Spring Break trips and providing our students with foundational memories and experiences.
With some quiet time on the horizon, I encourage you each to think about our March #OxPrinciple of Identity and how it factors into our relationships with each other and our students. Identity refers to how we see ourselves in the world—both as a community and individually. We each bring an important perspective to the table, and I look forward to seeing how we will continue to make space for all voices on this campus.
All the best,
Ken

This year, Emory Day of Giving is Wednesday, March 22 from 6 a.m. to March 23 at 6 p.m. This is the day where students, parents, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends join in support of everything exceptional at Emory, from life-changing scholarships to outstanding experiences and more. Offering fun and easy ways to support what inspires you, Emory Day of Giving allows you to help advance the cause, program, or enterprise within Emory that matters most. For example, you can support Oxford by directing your gift to any of the funds listed below. You can also amplify the impact of your gift on Emory Day of Giving through matches and challenges.
Gifts of all sizes are vital to sustain Emory’s mission to create, preserve, teach, and apply knowledge in the service of humanity. Please visit here to participate.
On Emory Day of Giving, we are highlighting these giving opportunities:
- The Brook International Travel Endowment supports Oxford College students who are first-time international travelers with airfare for study abroad and travel courses.
- The Tarbutton Leadership Fellows supports Oxford students as they lead more than 80 clubs, organizations, varsity sports, and programs.
- The Luke Gregory Memorial Compassion Endowment was established by the Gregory Family in memory of Luke Gregory 76Ox 78C. The endowment supports stipends to students, faculty, or staff who experience hardships.
- The Oxford College Organic Farm was created in 2011 to provide fresh produce for the Oxford community while offering Oxford's students hands-on experiences that cut across many disciplines. The farm began operation in 2014 and quickly earned a spot on the list of the Top 30 Sustainable College-Run Farms. Many Oxford faculty members incorporate the farm into their curricula. This includes courses in anthropology, economics, sociology, biology, philosophy, environmental science, and wellness. Students visit the farm with their professors in their instruction and return to work for several additional hours.
