Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,
I hope you are each enjoying a restful spring break.
Some of our students are using their spring break to broaden their horizons and are overseas participating in Global Learning travel courses—including one class in Ghana and another in the Bahamas. Many thanks to all faculty and staff who help make these adventures possible. I look forward to hearing about their transformative experiences when they return.
Next week on Tuesday, March 19, Emory ODEI and the Office of Faculty Affairs are hosting a Women in Leadership Networking Luncheon in the Dean’s Dining Room from 11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. The event is open to faculty and staff women, women-identifying individuals, and non-binary and gender non-conforming people. This is a great opportunity to build connections and community. You can RSVP here and read more about the event below.
If you haven’t already, I encourage all staff to take the 2024 Staff Engagement and Future of Work Survey. You can find your personalized link in a March 1 email from Emory – Ctrl HR – Talent Mgt. with the subject line "2024 Staff Engagement and Future of Work Survey."
Warmly,
Badia

NAME: Ruth Geiger
TITLE/DEPT: Head Women's Soccer Coach/Instructor — Center for Healthful Living
How long have you been at Oxford?
I’ve been a staff member for 8 years, but I’m an alumna of Oxford and Emory so I’ve been part of the community for much longer. As the women’s soccer coach, I (attempt to) empower the women on my team to improve themselves on and off the field. As a PE instructor in the CHL, my classes focus on the multifaceted subject of wellness and helping students understand what that looks like in their lives.
What do you like best about your job and about Oxford?
I love watching Oxford students grow throughout their time here. They are so different coming in as first semester first-years than when they move on to the Atlanta campus. It’s a joy to watch them discover themselves, find their place, and make their mark here.
What is your favorite song/tv show/movie/restaurant/podcast?
I like West Wing, almost any docuseries, Call the Midwife, and The Great British Baking Show. For podcasts, I like We Can Do Hard Things, New Heights, Good Inside with Dr. Becky… and any true crime podcast.
What makes you happy or brings you joy?
My family brings me immense joy and stress. I enjoy being outside, cooking, and having two minutes to myself to create and articulate a coherent thought (I almost never get to do this).
Please complete this sentence: It might surprise people to know that I...

...have no answer to this.
