Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,
I hope you each are enjoying Spring Break and finding time to catch up, relax, or do something extraordinary that does not involve Zoom. It has been nice to look out at the quiet campus this week, even as we look forward to exciting events and activities after break. But that's enough said about events and activities—enjoy your break.
Best,
Doug

On Wednesday, March 16, at 7:30 p.m. in Williams Hall, Dr. Melvin Ayogu, Professor of Pedagogy in Economics on the Atlanta campus, will give a lecture called "Proving Your Awesomeness" about being relevant in postmodernism. The goal is to alert young minds that employability and career progression in the immediate future requires multiple skillsets. Developing such a skillset begins with a liberal arts education.
Ayogu's work focuses on anti-money laundering, infrastructure, and institutions, and his current research is about cultural narratives on gender inequality.

Southern Circuit Film Series: Los Hermanos/The Brothers
|
|
Los Hermanos/The Brothers is coming to the virtual Southern Circuit Film Series from March 13-16. Register and watch the film here.
Synopsis: Virtuoso Afro-Cuban-born brothers—violinist Ilmar and pianist Aldo—live on opposite sides of a geopolitical chasm a half-century wide. Tracking their parallel lives in New York and Havana, their poignant reunion, and their momentous first performances together, Los Hermanos/The Brothers offers a nuanced, often startling view of estranged nations through the lens of music and family.
The film features an electrifying, genre-bending score, composed by Cuban Aldo López-Gavilán, performed with his American brother, Ilmar, and with guest appearances by maestro Joshua Bell and the Harlem Quartet.
