Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,
Yesterday, Provost Bellamkonda shared the exciting news that Badia Ahad has been named the next dean of Oxford College. She will begin her tenure on August 1, and I look forward to passing the baton to such a uniquely qualified scholar and leader as I return to the faculty. Badia comes to Oxford from Loyola University Chicago, where she served as vice provost for faculty affairs. You can read more about her goals, background, and many accomplishments on our website here.
Next Thursday, June 1, you’ll have the chance to welcome Badia in person at a community gathering and breakfast from 9:00–10:30 a.m. in the Student Center. President Fenves and Provost Bellamkonda will be in attendance. You can RSVP here.
After breakfast, we’ll move over to Phi Gamma for a faculty and staff Q&A from 10:30–11:30 a.m. You can RSVP and submit questions for Badia—due by this Friday, May 26, at 5:00 p.m.—at this link.
These are great opportunities to meet Badia and hear about her exciting vision for the future of our community. I hope to see you there.
Best regards,
Ken

Alexander “Sandy” Morehouse 63C, a member of Oxford's Board of Counselors, and his wife, Betsy, are the recipients of The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation's Excellence in Stewardship Award. The awards recognize those who ensure the preservation of historic properties through long-term care and maintenance, stabilization, protection or continuous family ownership. They worked to preserve the main house of the Burge Club, which was a 1920 design by noted architect and family member Merrit J. Morehouse. Through their longstanding stewardship, the Morehouse family has not shied away from the full history of the Burge site — documenting the histories of those enslaved at the site, the tenant families who farmed the land, and the many women in the family whose stories were integral to the ongoing history of the site.
