A note from the Dean

Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,

A reminder that Oxford will close this Friday, in addition to Monday, to give everyone a four-day Memorial Day holiday. I appreciate all your hard work this year and hope each of you has time to relax and recharge this summer. To that end, remember that there also will be four-day weekends in honor of Juneteenth (June 17-20) and the Fourth of July holiday (July 1-4).

This is the last regularly scheduled Campus Update for the academic year. The next issues will be June 15 and July 13, followed by the resumption of weekly Campus Updates starting August 3. Submissions will be held for those issues.

Ken Carter, Charles Howard Candler Professor of Psychology, was interviewed by Maiken Scott for NPR’s Health and Science Podcast, The Pulse. Listen to the episode, titled "Inside the Mind of Thrill Seekers," here.

Pearl Dowe, Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Political Science and African American Studies, was recently published in the Journal of Women, Politics & Policy with a piece titled "The Community Matters: Finding the Source of the Radical Imagination of Black Women’s Political Ambition." "Two days before Oxford College’s commencement ceremony, Dean Douglas Hicks sat in his office on the fourth floor of Seney Hall. From his prime view of the quad below, he overlooked the stage where he would send off second-year students to the Atlanta campus for the sixth year in a row. This year, he joined them in their farewells as he prepared to return to his alma mater, Davidson College, in August as its next president."

Erin Ferranti 96Ox 98N 01N 01PH 13G, Assistant Professor at the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, was recently awarded a research grant from the American Heart Association. Read more about the award and Dr. Ferranti here.
