A note from the Dean
Dear Staff and Faculty Colleagues,

This morning the Oxford Staff Organization sponsored the annual staff awards celebration. (Next year we will be back in picnic format, I hope and trust!) It is an honor to recognize and thank staff members who have dedicated themselves to Oxford College for significant shares of their career — 5 years, 10 years, and so on, up to 35 years of service — thank you, Joy Budensiek and Seth Tepfer, for 35 years each! Together they have devoted 245 years of service to our college.

We also celebrated this year's Fleming Staff Award recipient — Matt Smith. One of his nominators said this: It would be difficult to estimate the number of hours that Matt devotes to his job, but we have all benefited from his sincere commitment and tireless dedication. He ... brings his impressive work ethic, boundless energy (check out his steps on the Move More Challenge!), great sense of humor, and a bit of hilarious wit and snark to every encounter. Congratulations, Matt.

Thanks to all of you, staff and faculty alike, for your superb efforts to keep Oxford running, with momentum.

Best,
Doug

2021 Oxford College Staff Awards
The Annual Oxford College Staff Awards were presented at the Oxford Staff Organization (OSO) meeting on May 26. The college gives these awards each year to recognize dedicated colleagues working on the Oxford and Atlanta campuses. Traditionally Oxford staff are recognized for service anniversaries during the awards ceremony.

Friends of Oxford Award
Criteria for this award, given to Emory colleagues in Atlanta who have gone out of their way to assist Oxford College and work closely with staff on the Oxford campus, includes working closely with multiple people at Oxford, keeping Oxford in mind when conducting work and planning, and making positive contributions to work and life at Oxford. This year, two colleagues on the Atlanta campus were honored — Rebecca Watson, associate director of housing administration, for her close work with and support of the Oxford College housing team throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and Sharon Rabinovitz, executive director of Emory University Student Health Services, for her genuine and dedicated care for Oxford's students.

Bond Fleming Outstanding Service Award
The Bond Fleming Outstanding Service Award recognizes exemplary service, devotion, and commitment to Oxford College. This year's award was presented to Matt Smith, academic technology specialist with Academic Affairs and Oxford's official "Zoom expert." Smith showed dedication, patience, humor, and calmness while working with faculty and staff tirelessly during the 2020-2021 academic year to ensure virtual programs for the Oxford community ran smoothly. He was consistently present for both high-profile special events for national and regional audiences to regular everyday events for the Oxford community.
