A note from the Dean
Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,

As we prepare to celebrate the holidays, it’s once again time to channel Oxford’s spirit of giving. There are two great opportunities to give back in the coming weeks.

Each November, Oxford participates in Emory Cares International Service Day. I always look forward to this event and find hope in coming together in service to our friends and neighbors. This year, we’re again supporting the Newton County Department of Family & Children Services. I hope you will consider joining us on Saturday, Nov. 13, from 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. in the Oxford Student Center to make care boxes for children and teens in the Newton County Foster Care Program. You can register here by scrolling down to the project titled, "Package Essential Items - Oxford, Georgia.” Walk-ins are also welcome. We are still in need of items on this list, which you can donate in the plastic bins in front of the Student Center by end of day Friday.

We also are participating in the Holiday Assistance Program, where we provide clothes, toys, books, and games for children in the Newton County Foster Care Program. Please sign up here by Nov. 17 if you’d like to contribute, whether by shopping for the children or donating to the Oxford staff to shop on your behalf.

Thank you for making Oxford a vibrant and caring community.

Best,
Doug
Oxford in the news
Pearl Dowe, Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Political Science and African American Studies, spoke to The Washington Post about the historical significance of the diverse set of winners in this year's election cycle. She specifically noted the reach and success of Black women on the campaign trail. Peter McLellan, Educational Analyst in Academic Affairs, was interviewed by Digication, a podcast that engages with scholars in digital education, about Oxford's Milestone Project. Its curriculum is focused on student-curation of experiences and developing a digital portfolio reflection project. Watch part 1 of his conversation here and part 2 here.
Staff updates
Billy Fan, Web Applications Developer and Senior Analyst, has accepted a new position and will have his last day at Oxford on Friday, Nov. 19.

Be sure to congratulate Billy, who has been the brains behind so many of Oxford's most useful applications, such as EaglePost, EagleSign, Shuttle Reservation, and the Discovery Seminar process. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors!
This week on campus: First-Gen Week
We are in the middle of First-Gen Week, our celebration of first generation college students, staff, and faculty here at Oxford. This year's events at Emory were held alongside the national First-Generation College Celebration on November 8, but our our festivities continue all week long with fun times and useful information.

So far this week, we've had panels, informational tea-time, and social receptions. Tonight, November 10, is FASFA Night, where staff from the Office of Financial Aid will be available for 1-on-1 consultations in the Math and Science Center. Plenty more is still to come, including a banner signing, a student panel, game night, and a community dinner with food truck tacos to wrap up the week!

Find the schedule for the rest of the week's fun here.

Emory is committed to the success of our first-generation students and was recently admitted to the 2021-2022 cohort of First-Gen Forward, a national recognition and professional development program hosted by the Center for First-Generation Student Success.

It will consist of seasonal and holiday music and cost $5 for entry. The Oxford Dance Company's show is on Dec. 3
