A note from the Dean
Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,

We are now approaching the end of the fall semester believe it or not! In less than two weeks, classes will conclude on Oxford's campus, with exams and final assignments happening virtually after Thanksgiving. I want to express my sincere gratitude to all faculty and staff, for your high-quality efforts during a period with challenges far beyond our control.

Oxford will close for business at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 18, and re-open at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, January 4. We have decided to extend the winter break for staff by three workdays to include December 21, 22, and 23. The intervening two weeks will be considered paid leave and staff will not need to use personal vacation days to enjoy this 10-workday break.

I hope that we all can rest and enjoy time with friends and family (while keeping everyone safe) over this break. I know that there is still a final push to end the semester well, but it is also good to see the moments for Thanksgiving and winter break that lie ahead. Thank you for being a part of the Oxford community.

Sincerely,
Doug
Notes from ChapLyn
We enjoy cooking in our house. Well, Ami probably enjoys it more than I do, and she’s better at it. I have done a good bit of stress baking during the pandemic, and the process (and eating) associated with the baking has become an act of self-care. That’s one reason why I am excited about this year’s OSO fundraiser for the Chaplaincy Emergency Fund an Oxford College cookbook.

The best cookbooks are the ones with recipes from people we know and care about. They not only get the job done and nourish our bodies, but because we know the people involved, they also nourish our souls. Some of the recipes in the Oxford cookbook are for the delicious foods we have enjoyed at our fundraisers year after year.

You can place an order for a digital copy of the cookbook now by making a minimum $5 donation via this link. Print copies of the cookbook will be available too and make excellent gifts for all occasions, especially this time of year. All donations via the link above will support the emergency fund, which helps maintain the strength of our campus community. Please join us for a cookbook launch party with OSO on Wednesday, November 18, at 9:00 a.m. via Zoom.

Bon appétit!

Emory Cares Oxford project accepting items and boxes through Sat. Nov. 14
There's still time to participate in this year's Emory Cares Oxford College Project. Participants can drop off either completed boxes or supplies to be packaged until November 14. Volunteer Oxford students will assist in assembling boxes if needed.

Continuing the Oxford tradition, the service project supports the Newton County Department of Family and Children Services. Instead of gathering to assemble boxes, volunteers can drop off already made boxes or purchase supplies for boxes. Travel size items are great to include and dollar stores typically have a good selection of small toys, coloring books, books, or other small items to package.

Items for boxes: soap/body wash, toothbrush, toothpaste, lotion, mouthwash, deodorant (if appropriate), and a fun item like a coloring book, small toy, or book.

Drop-off a completed and wrapped box
Drop off a pre-made box by November 14 that includes the above items. Please wrap your box in decorative paper and attach a note indicating if the box is gender specific. Please attach a note indicating if your box is for a boy or girl and the age range: (0-2) (3-5) (6-10) (11-13) (14+)

Drop off boxes in person:
Until November 13 at the Advancement and Alumni Engagement House at 711 Emory Street, Oxford.
Times for drop off are Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
On Saturday, November 14, from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.at the Oxford Student Center, 801 Wesley Street.

Buy an itemwe'll pack it in a box

HR reminder: Use your floating holidays
As we approach the end of the year, check to see if you have used the two floating holidays that are placed in your leave-time account annually. If you have not used them, think about how and when you want to use them by December 31. Unlike regularly earned leave-time hours, floating holidays do not roll over to the next year. (Please note that persons hired after July 1 receive one floating holiday for the year.)

Please contact the Oxford Human Resources Department if you have any questions or concerns.
