A note from the Dean
Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,

I'm looking forward to Oxford's annual Family Weekend this Friday–Sunday. Staff and faculty have worked hard to develop engaging programs and activities for both our students and their families and friends. I encourage you all to join the fun as students share their Oxford experience with those closest to them. Saturday's Picnic on the Quad, from 11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m., is a great way for faculty and staff to participate in the festivities, no RSVP necessary. You can click here to see a full schedule of the weekend's events.

As most of you know, we held our first listening sessions for the Oxford Dean Search earlier this week. If you were unable to attend, a final session will be held this Friday, October 21, from 3:00–4:00 p.m. If you can’t be there, you can email your thoughts to [email protected].
Finally, I want to acknowledge last week's Indigenous Peoples’ Day, which offered yet another opportunity for reflection on our history. Our campus is situated on grounds that originally belonged to the Muscogee people, who were forced to vacate their own territory in 1821—15 years before Emory began. On Thursday October 27, Oxford will host a listening session as we embark on the Indigenous Language Path project—a university-wide effort to build physical reminders and develop campus rituals that honor the Muscogee people. The next day the Atlanta campus will host additional sessions, a Muscogee Teach-in, and a traditional stomp dance. All sessions will be conducted by the Native-led consulting firm KAI with representatives of the Muscogee Nation in attendance.

Have a great week,
Ken
