A note from the Dean
Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,

It’s hard to believe that next week is Fall Break and the approach of mid-term. Many students will be participating in our Alternative Fall Break program for a few meaningful days of helping with facility maintenance at Camp Twin Lakes, about 25 minutes down the road. Held from October 9–11, faculty and staff are welcome to join for a day—or two or three! Please contact [email protected] if you want to get involved.

As I mentioned in last week’s letter, this October we are focusing on the Oxford core principle of Care, and Alternative Fall Break is a great way to support our neighbors. Just last week, Laura Gafnea took some 30 meal kits and miscellaneous canned goods donated by faculty and staff to the Covington FUMC Food Pantry to share with local families in need. Thanks to all who participated and helped show our care for the community!

I again encourage you to check out the video produced by our Peer Advising Network and to think about ways to be kind to each other. Yesterday, many shared their care for pets and community at the annual Blessing of the Animals, sponsored by the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life. My cats weren’t able to attend, but several faculty and staff brought their pets—mostly dogs (and one cat)—to the OSC front plaza for students to greet and make new furry friends.

Best regards,
Ken

AAE announces student co-chairs for 2023 Class Gift
The Office of Advancement and Alumni Engagement has announced the two new co-chairs of the 2023 Oxford Class Gift Committee.
Meera Sethi is from the small town of Canfield, Ohio. She is a Biology major on the pre-med track and has served as an orientation leader. She is currently the senior event coordinator for Oxford’s MED club, and a member of the swim club, weightlifting club, film club, and cooking club. Outside of studying, she loves to work out and do anything “outdoorsy” to de-stress. She is a foodie and enjoys cooking and baking whenever she can. Meera is excited to serve as co-chair of the Class Gift Committee and “can’t wait for what is to come”!
Simon Kresberg was born in South Korea and raised in New York City. He is an International Relations major and, like Meera, has served as an orientation leader. He is in the Student Admission Association (SAA) and enjoys giving tours to prospective students. Simon is also the president of the Korean American Student Association.

The Oxford Class Gift Committee is a student leadership organization that fosters the opportunity for student awareness of philanthropy and creates a legacy for the sophomore class at Oxford. The chosen gift is announced each spring, and the students will reach out to faculty and staff for support.
National Diversity Week at Oxford
This is National Diversity Week, and there are events across the university to celebrate and discuss inclusion and belonging. Here at Oxford, the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is hosting the Dooley Diversity Dialogue in the Student Center Mural Room at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 6.

The Dooley Diversity Dialogue is a program for students who are interested in learning about the many educative concepts that fall under diversity. These concepts range from microaggressions, stereotyping, discrimination, orientation/expression/identity, and more. Diversity education is the bedrock of increasing one’s own development in cultural competency.

This roundtable will cover current events. Encourage your students to attend! They can RSVP here and can contact Wade Manora Jr. with any questions.
