Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,
Some of you have asked how Oxford might, within the protocols of the campus and the university, safely engage in person with students living on campus this semester. I appreciate your interest in doing so. We know how valuable this individual or small-group interaction is for our students and for their on-campus experience. Faculty and staff who have engaged in these activities have also reported how gratifying it has been to connect in person.
Thanks to OCTS and Campus Life, who provided information on how to participate in these programs, how to host your own gathering, and the gathering guidelines below:

Volunteer Oxford hosts virtual Dooley's Day of Service
|
|
Volunteer Oxford hosted Dooley's Day of Service virtually this year on Saturday, September 5. Dooley's Day of Service is an annual campus-wide event to kick off service opportunities for the academic year. This year was a collaborative effort with Volunteer Oxford and student clubs and organizations assisting in leading the projects. Fifty-four students participated in a variety of virtual service opportunities including transcribing documents from the Smithsonian to promote literacy, writing letters to local elementary students at Washington Street Community Center, social-justice outreach to raise awareness of Uighur Muslim persecution, and food recovery at the Oxford Dining Hall.

The Oxford Class of 2020 Class Gift Campaign
|
|
The Oxford community has always supported and encouraged each other and we are proud to be a part of this community as alumni. We also wish to thank those who donated to the Oxford College 2020 Class Gift Campaign. We are grateful for the many ways faculty and staff have demonstrated support for the class gift.
The Class Gift Committee selected the Oxford Chaplaincy Emergency Fund as the recipient of the 2020 Class Gift. The donations received will ensure the support of Oxford students, faculty and staff. We made our gift in honor of Pernilla Hardin, Oxford's men's and women's head tennis coach, and due to the generosity of supporters we raised $7,300.
The Oxford Advancement and Alumni Engagement staff will stay in touch regarding ways to support the Oxford Class Gift of 2021.
With appreciation and gratitude, the 2020 Oxford Class Gift Committee:
Jasser Ahmed, Neha Ali (chair), Bryce Chang, Emma Chatson, Rachel Ding, Ehren Fernandez, Kyle Kairys, Alex Levine, Zay Lewis, Sam Lucius, Warren Luo, Sandra Macias, Prue Nkansah, Nick Paschetto, Jessica Qiu, Kriti Rastogi, Jaylen Simons, Michelle Tan, Hope Taylor, Chris Uribe, Jack Wolfram, June Woo, and Molina Zhang

Conversation group for students regarding family experiences and challenges
|
Oxford College Student Involvement & Leadership and Counseling & Career Services are hosting a four-week virtual conversation group to support students who are experiencing or have experienced challenges within their families. Please share this opportunity as appropriate with any students you know who might be interested in or benefit from participating.
Family matters are usually considered to be quite private. Even the most loving, healthy, and supportive families tend to keep their relationships and home life private. Perhaps there was some tragedy, crisis, abuse, rejection or just the common dysfunction in your family background resulting in conflicts, avoidances or both. Perhaps your family is loving, supportive and defines joyful ideals. Regardless, your family does matter when it comes to the person you are and the person you are becoming.
The goal of this support group is to provide a space for students to connect with other students who wish to explore how the family experiences they come from plays a role in some of the challenges and difficulties experienced now. The group is also an opportunity to learn more about your own qualities and tendencies in relationships and gather tools/resources for coping with family challenges.
This group will start Wednesday, Sept 30 at 6 p.m. and run for 4 weeks! Only 10 spots available, so register HERE to join us and spill The Family Tea!
