Greetings!

The end of the spring semester approaches, and we continue to make excellent progress on Phase Two of the 18-month plan that I shared with you in January. Here are some highlights:

  • Strategic Plan/Budget: the Strategic Plan committee is putting the final touches on a set of long-term strategic goals.
  • Academic Program Assessment: program assessments are now in the hands of a reviewer who will provide feedback that will be shared with each program.
  • Athletic Program Assessment: the Director of Athletics is working in tandem with VPAA to plan and implement a thorough assessment of the athletics program. This included a forum on Athletics and Academics on April 18.
  • Academic Advising: the search for two professional academic advisors is going well, and we look forward to announcing the new hires soon.

More to celebrate

  • This week is Earth Week and Clarke celebrated in many ways, such as including climate discussions in the classroom and co-hosting Dubuque’s first Climate Action Festival. All are invited to attend a special tree planting at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, April 21 on the Atrium Front Lawn to conclude the week’s events.
  • Pulitzer Prize winner Art Cullen presented a lecture on April 12 and engaged a large crowd in a lively discussion.
  • Clarke University’s eighth annual Dance Marathon raised over $13,000 for the Miracle Children’s Network and the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital with their event on April 15.
  • We have launched the Dubuque Promise Program, thanks to a grant from the DRA, which will provide financial assistance to many students in the tri-state area who attend local colleges.
  • The annual Faculty Staff Achievement Celebration was held on Wednesday, April 19. Among the awards and recognitions were

What to look forward to

  • The Tenth Muse literary magazine launch party will happen on April 25 and we will share selections and updates on social media.
  • We look forward to seeing our Board members on campus April 27 and 28 and our Alumni Board members on April 29.
  • Clarke Fest, the university’s annual block party, will take over Clarke Drive on April 29. This free, family-friendly event is set for 4 to 7 p.m. on the Atrium front lawn.

I continue to be appreciative of all of the work you do and your investment in the upcoming work that will shape Clarke’s bright and successful future.

Go Pride!
