LaGuardia Performing Arts Center’s (LPAC) Rough Draft Festival returns October 27-30, bringing together artists and longtime producing partners for four nights of theater still actively in development. “New work doesn’t move in a straight line, and it isn’t finished simply because it has been presented once,” said Handan Ozbilgin, Director of the Festival. “Artists and companies come to Rough Draft at different points in their creative journeys.” This fall’s festival features MAMA/RUN and FURBALL, both returning to LPAC after earlier developmental presentations, alongside SKIN TO SKIN, presented in partnership with Houses on the Moon Theater Company. Lester Eugene Mayers’ MAMA/RUN blends poetry, movement, and ritual to explore the complex bonds between mothers and children through themes of love, loss, survival, and memory. In FURBALL, by Jeana Scotti and directed by Tara Elliott, Sam discovers a mysterious furball growing inside their body. As it expands, the play delivers a surreal, darkly comic exploration of relationships, bodily autonomy, and the absurdities of modern healthcare. SKIN TO SKIN, created by Trixie Ndanu Kioko and Jeremy J. Kamps, draws on the true stories of Black mothers and midwives to examine the impact of systemic racism in labor and delivery care. Tickets are available through a free RSVP or a $25 Supporter Ticket, with proceeds going to artists developing new work at LPAC. A $50 Festival Supporter Pass includes admission to all three presentations on dates and times selected by the passholder.

The LaGuardia community is invited to support students, families, and neighbors in need through campus-wide food, winter coat, and toy drives. Donations collected across campus this fall will stock the LaGuardia CARES pantry, provide winter clothing to residents of a local shelter, and help bring holiday cheer to the children of student parents. A highlight of this year’s giving efforts is a holiday toy drive organized by Veterans Services in partnership with the CUNY Fatherhood Academy and LaGuardia CARES. Departments across the college will serve as collection sites for new, wrapped toys to be distributed at LaGuardia’s Kids Christmas, a holiday celebration on December 8 for children enrolled in the Early Childhood Learning Center. The Office of Public Safety is also collecting nonperishable food and winter coats. Food donations will support the LaGuardia CARES pantry, which serves LaGuardia students and their immediate families, while coats and other cold-weather clothing will be distributed to individuals and families staying at a local shelter.
