Michael Todd Hall, a 67-year-old U.S. Marine Corps veteran graduating with an AA in Human Services: Mental Health, and Mia Gonzalez, a 19-year-old raised in Ecuador who began her studies learning English through CLIP and will celebrate earning her AAS in Paralegal Studies, have been selected as the Class Representatives for LaGuardia Community College’s 2026 graduating class. They will deliver remarks at the college’s 54th Commencement Exercises on June 18 on the Quad at Queens College. Chosen through a competitive audition process, Michael and Mia will speak on behalf of a graduating class whose experiences reflect persistence, adaptation, and the pursuit of opportunity. Michael and Mia are highlighted among other members of their graduating class in Red Hawk Rising, a series of profiles on outstanding LaGuardia graduates-to-be—stay tuned for more profiles in the series.

LaGuardia will celebrate Pride Month 2026 with a series of public programs and community events throughout June. Many of these—including a Pride festival on the LaGuardia Community Greenway next Wednesday, June 3 from 1 to 3 p.m. and a neighborhood film series—are open to the public. Faculty and staff are invited to participate alongside students by marching with the CUNY LGBTQIA+ Consortium at Pride parades and events across Queens and New York City. Advance registration to march is requested; participants will receive a T-shirt designed by LaGuardia students. Many of these programs are part of LPAC’s Summer of Fun, a series of free, community-centered events culminating in a large-scale public screening of the World Cup Final on the Greenway on July 19.

| | Students in Professor Hugo Fernandez’s Art and Design Seminar will present an exhibition of original artwork inspired by Rick Rubin’s The Creative Act: A Way of Being, from June 3 to 10 in the President’s Gallery on the fifth floor of the E-Building. An opening reception will take place Wednesday, June 3, from 11:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The exhibition serves as the capstone for Fine Arts majors and highlights a range of disciplines, perspectives, and cultural influences. Among the featured artists, Santiago Belalcazar presents an Islamic-influenced painting inspired by the musical concept of maqam, while Geeta Seenaraine, a Design Studies major, exhibits a fashion-inspired piece using geometric shapes. Emily Galindo drew on her Mexican heritage to create a pen-on-paper piece titled El baile de los Tecuanes (The Dance of the Tecuanes), reflecting the folkloric traditions of Puebla. Additional student work will also be on view. | |  | 29th Street Co-Naming Celebration to be Held June 1 | Join us at 4 p.m. on June 1 for the 29th Street Co-Naming Event, celebrating the official co-naming of 29th Street as “LaGuardia Community College Way.” The event will feature remarks from Council Member Julie Won, President Kenneth Adams, and members of the community, followed by the unveiling of the new street sign commemorating the designation. Since its transformation into the LaGuardia Community Greenway in 2023, the space has become a vibrant hub for connection, creativity, and engagement. Led by Assistant Dean Melissa Grant, over 60 team members gathered to commemorate top achievers which included multiple unit-based awards and four division-wide Outstanding Achievement Awards winners: Jenny Lugo for Community Collaboration, Brett Cummings for Innovation in Advising, Elizabeth Anderson for Student Champion, and Howart Francis for Technology Leadership. | | LaGuardia Faculty Receive $122,000 in Research Funding from PSC-CUNY | PSC-CUNY recently awarded a total of $122,000 in research funding to 15 full-time faculty at LaGuardia in Cycle 57 of the PSC-CUNY Research Award Program. Grants for each faculty member range from $6,464 to $12,049 and will go toward the development of research and creative projects in a wide range of fields, including molecular biology, visual arts, English, and physics among others. Second Annual Equinox Showcase to Take Place June 5
in Room E-500
| On June 5, the Center for Teaching and Learning will host the Second Annual Equinox Showcase, “Transforming Practice Through Data-Driven Strategies” from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Room E-500. The showcase highlights Project Equinox, which aims to address persistent disparities in college-wide foundational and advanced courses across multiple disciplines by equipping faculty and adjunct instructors with data-informed, equity-minded teaching tools. The showcase will feature a short introduction to the project, followed by a poster session in which you can learn more details about the initiative and talk to Equinox participants about their work. | | | Faculty and staff are invited to attend the In-Service Training Committee’s upcoming workshop, “Navigating the 2026 Pivot and Beyond: Retirement Security & Industry Disruption in a Volatile Market” on May 29 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Professor Santo Trapani will share information on today’s economic landscape and provide practical steps to insulate your portfolio from current risks while looking toward a future of new companies that will transform industries and create new opportunities.
