LaGuardia Kicks Off "HERstory in the Making" with Alumni Panel

On March 10, LaGuardia hosted a panel of alumni to kick off the college's Women's History Month programming. The theme for this year’s kick-off event was mentorship and the significance of being mentored by women. LaGuardia alumni, some of whom work at the college today, gathered together to discuss mentorship and the significance of women as mentors, and acknowledged several women at the college who have impacted their journeys, both at LaGuardia and beyond. Following the panel, there was also an interactive workshop to write letters and make collages of appreciation to a LaGuardia faculty or staff member or peer who has inspired them or impacted their lives in some way. All work will be incorporated into a communal showcase on display for the month in the M-building lobby.

RED HAWK ATHLETICS

LaGuardia Community College Celebrates Women’s and Men’s Basketball Team Achievements

LaGuardia is celebrating LaGuardia Women’s and Men’s Basketball for reaching CUNY Playoffs & Regional Quarterfinals for the first time since 2017. “So much hard work and trust has gone into this season, especially having new leadership with higher expectations,” said Marquee Poole, director of Athletics. “I am very proud of the work I am proud and excited to recognize our LaGuardia Athletics Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams for an outstanding season!” The Men’s Basketball team finished their season with 8-18 overall. The Women’s Basketball team finished the season with 6-12 overall. Both teams advanced to the CUNY Playoffs and reached the first round of the NJCAA Region 15 Tournament (Quarterfinals). Poole said this is something that has not been accomplished since 2016 and 2017. “This is a major achievement for our program and for our college community,” Poole said. “No matter who we played, our student athletes competed with heart, toughness, and pride. They persevered through injuries and even played shorthanded at times. Both teams faced challenges head on, and they never made excuses. They showed what it means to represent LaGuardia the right way.”

New CUNY Student Email System Coming Soon

CUNY is launching a new email system to streamline the way students access their college and university emails. Beginning April 13, all CUNY students will have a single inbox for CUNY and LaGuardia-related emails. Students will access the new inbox using their @login.cuny.edu account, and will receive a new campus-specific address using the domain @stu-mail.lagcc.cuny.edu; they will be able to send and receive messages from/ to both of these addresses using the new inbox. Learn more here.

Never Give Your Password or MFA Factors to Anyone

LaGuardia DoIT has learned that some students, faculty and staff have received phone calls and messages requesting their LaGuardia password or MFA factors including Temporary One Time Password (TOTP). Please note that no one from LaGuardia or CUNY will ever call you to request your password. If anyone calls you and requests your password or MFA info, do not give that person your information—it is a scam. We are committed to supporting your safe and secure use of technology. The fastest way to report suspected phishing messages is click on “Report Message” and in the dropdown screen, click on “Phishing.” This sends the message directly to the security team for analysis.
