Hendrickson Speaks at Nasdaq x Blacks at Microsoft for Black History Month | | On February 3, Dr. Jason T. Hendrickson, Professor of English, was a featured panelist at Nasdaq's Black History Month Symposium, “Honoring History, Advancing Opportunity, and Shaping the Future of Work," hosted in partnership with Blacks at Microsoft (BAM). The event celebrated the rich legacy of and ongoing impact of African Americans in leadership as well as conversations on the changing landscape of the workforce. Dr. Hendrickson brought a group of interested students from his English 101 class to partake in the day's activities. “The students had the opportunity to soak in knowledge from industry leaders from around the country and meet and network with dozens of professionals across the fields of tech, business, education, and medicine,” says Dr. Hendrickson. The day ended with the group joining Nasdaq’s Closing Bell ceremony—broadcast live on CNBC—with photos from their visit displayed on the iconic Nasdaq tower in Times Square. | | Save the Date: Opening Sessions is March 3 | | Please mark your calendars for Opening Sessions on Tuesday, March 3 at 10 a.m. in the Little Theater. The event, which kicks off the Spring semester, will feature news from around the college and panel discussions focused on key initiatives. Come early for coffee in the Skylight area beginning at 9 a.m. American Sign Language interpretation will be provided. | | | CUNY Case Reporting System | | | | CUNY takes all reports of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation seriously, including reports pertaining to sexual misconduct. Recently, the university enhanced the process for reporting these incidents. We encourage individuals who may have experienced or witnessed discrimination, harassment, or retaliation to submit a report through the University’s updated reporting form, which is designed to facilitate prompt review and coordinated follow-up. We also encourage the campus community to visit the CUNY Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliation Homepage for more information about the reporting system, CUNY policies on discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, and available campus and external resources. | | International Student Services Office Relocates to C-258 | | Earlier this week, the International Student Services (ISS) team moved into their new office in Room C-258, located in the C-Building. If a student you know needs help with their F-1 visa or other issues relating to their status as an international student, please direct them to the ISS office C-258, or have them contact (718) 482-5145 or fsinformation@lagcc.cuny.edu. | | | LaGuardia and CUNY to Adopt Workday for HR and Finance Management in January 2027 | | | | CUNY recently announced that all 26 campuses will transition from the university's current HR and finance platforms in January 2027. Workday will become the primary system used by HR and Finance staff for their day-to-day functions. The platform will replace the HR and Finance modules currently managed in CUNYfirst and all CUNY employees will use Workday for employee self-service functions. Keep an eye out for future communications regarding the upcoming transition; no action needs to be taken at the moment. | | LaGuardia offers resources to support students, regardless of their immigration status. The college has published LaGuardia’s Know Your Rights webpage, which features a series of resources and general guidelines for interacting with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE). | | The FY2026 Tax Levy December 31, 2025 Operating Budgets by department are available for viewing. | | | LAGUARDIA AND WAGNER ARCHIVES | | PIX11 Journalist Interviews Archives Director and Students | | On February 4, the LaGuardia and Wagner Archives brought students and faculty to the PIX11 Newsroom in midtown Manhattan. Journalist and current Inner Circle president Eileen Lehpamer interviewed Molly Rosner, Director of Education Programs at the Archives, and two student ambassadors, Karina Ordonez and Alex Garcia, for her podcast Eileen Explores, where they discussed the untold stories behind archival artifacts and their research in the Inner Circle Collection. If a faculty or staff member need access to data, they can submit an Institutional Effectiveness Service Request (requires CUNY Login). | | LAGUARDIA PERFORMING ARTS CENTER | | LPAC and Culture Lab LIC have partnered to present A Duet from SARAH, a work-in-progress by noted choreographer Hussein Smko. Partially developed at LPAC over more than two years, the intimate duet will be presented at Culture Lab LIC (5-25 46th Ave, Long Island City, NY 11101) on Saturday, February 21, at 7:30 p.m. The performance explores Kurdish experiences, cultural memory, and political transformation through the lens of war and displacement. The work reflects on the violent rule of Saddam Hussein and his 2005 trial before the Iraqi Special Tribunal, exploring how political violence reverberates through human relationships, bodily autonomy, and artistic expression. Reserve here. | | | For more than two decades, Rough Draft Festival of LaGuardia Performing Arts Center (LPAC) has offered a first public view to bold new theatrical work in development, serving as a proving ground for writers and performance-makers in Queens while remaining deeply connected to New York City’s wider creative ecosystem. Running March 10–19, 2026, the festival brings audiences, artists, and the field into the room at-the-moment when big ideas are becoming buildable theater. This year, LPAC will present five works-in-progress selected through a highly competitive review process led by a panel of arts professionals from across New York City’s creative community, as well as one returning artist. Together, the 2026 slate reflects a wide range of voices and forms, from choreopoem to musical theater to experimental performance, offering audiences an early look at stories being developed with ambition, craft, and urgency. Tickets can be purchased here. | | Sabine Rospide to Serve as Campus Counsel at Bronx Community College | | Sabine Rospide, Legal Counsel and Labor Relations Director and interim Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) at LaGuardia, will be pursuing an exciting opportunity to work as Campus Counsel at Bronx Community College, effective March 1. Her last working day at LaGuardia is Thursday, February 19. During her time at LaGuardia, Sabine has made a meaningful impact through her dedication, professionalism, and commitment to excellence. From serving in dual roles as the interim CDO and Legal Counsel at a critical juncture for the college to providing thoughtful and sage guidance to our community, her work has helped strengthen our team and move the college's goals forward. Congratulations to Sabine! | | | Faculty Invited to Support 2026 Math Is Everywhere Student Competition | | | | LaGuardia’s annual Math Is Everywhere interdisciplinary student competition is scheduled to take place May 13 from 2 to 4:15 p.m. in Room E-242 and the Mainstage Theater Lobby. Faculty from all departments of the college are invited to mentor student participants and spread the word about the competition. If interested in supporting the competition, attend an instructional meeting on March 25 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Second Floor C-Building Lobby or April 22 from 1 to 3 p.m. in Room E-242 / the Mainstage Theater Lobby. The March meeting will be a welcoming overview of the competition, featuring sample topics and event-day logistics; the April meeting will cover tips for creating strong submissions, including accepted formats, judging criteria, and submission procedures. Click here for more information about the competition. | | Dr. Cory Rowe to Deliver Seminar on Criminal Justice Education, February 25 | | Dr. Cory Rowe, Associate Professor of Criminal Justice and Lead Professor for College Way, will lead a seminar called “Decolonizing Criminal Justice Education: Collaborative Learning Inside Rikers Island” at the CUNY Graduate Center on Wednesday, February 25 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The seminar will explore a decolonial approach to criminal justice education that brings LaGuardia students into direct collaboration with incarcerated students in a shared learning environment. Reminder: Submit Software Installation Requests Before Spring Semester Begins
If you require software to be installed in class computers for the Spring semester, be sure to submit your requests prior to the start of the semester. Once classes begin, scheduling prevents the DoIT team from downloading software during the semester. The only exceptions that will be considered are emergency installations approved by the provost. DoIT will accept specific software installation requests for Spring I until Friday, February. 27. For applications available to all CUNY Faculty, visit CUNY Technology Services. To submit a software installation request, open an IT HelpDesk ticket through the Faculty & Staff Portal, or contact Theresia Litvay-Sardou at TERRYL@lagcc.cuny.edu.
