The Canadian Mental Health Association, Windsor-Essex County Branch is the lead provider and advocate of specialized community mental health and addiction services integrated with comprehensive primary health care services. Celebrating 50 years of service in 2021, the organization has expanded considerably over the years, but the one constant has been our commitment to respond to the mental health and wellness needs of our community.
Working with a variety of community partners, we ensure individuals are receiving the care they need, at the right time, from the right provider. Even prior to the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, the need for mental health and addictions services was significant, and has only intensified as we collectively deal with two years of health anxiety and isolation, which has led to greater rates of anxiety and depression, substance misuse and even suicide.
In 2019 CMHA-WECB was delighted to be selected as the official charity partner of the Can-Am Police-Fire Games. Recognizing the high levels of stress that accompany those that work on the front lines, CMHA-WECB formed a coalition with area first responder agencies, and have been working over these last 3 years to provide additional training, education and support specific to first responders and their families. “We Help First” now has a dedicated website and social media channels providing access to news, events and trainings.
We are proud of our partnership with our first responder agencies and the City of Windsor, and look forward to an exciting build-up to the Games in July, including hosting the Chief’s Luncheon, an online 50/50 lottery, a partnership challenge with Windsor CrossFit and so much more!
