Do you believe that God strategically placed our Church on the Four Corners of
the Law in Charleston just to make it easy and convenient for people walking
around downtown on a Sunday to find a place of worship? Perhaps, but I really
doubt it. If that were the case, our church would be packed every Sunday.
So, what percentage of the hundreds of people walking past our church doors
would you believe are heavy-ladened with some level of worry, fear, anxiety,
unforgiveness, grief, anger, mental and physical concern, or trouble in their lives?
I don’t know the answer to that question either, but God surely does…but, if I were
to guess a percentage, the answer would be 100%. I don’t believe at all that it was
by pure happen chance that God put St. Michael’s Church on His corner...do you?
BLESSED TO BE A BLESSING
Did you know that the last thing Jesus did before he ascended into heaven was
bless His disciples? Luke 24:51 says “While He blessed them, he parted from
them and was carried up into heaven.” The idea is to pass on the blessing that
Jesus so richly has given to you and me through the ministry of Jesus’ birth, death
on the cross, and resurrection.
On every Mustard Seed Ministry Day our team gathers in prayer in the Sanctuary
to pray together A Proclamation of God’s Kingdom, followed by individual prayers
to ask God to draw into our Ministry the hurting, broken and lost passing by St.
Michael’s massive doors. Each team member greets the individuals, couples and
families God sends with a smile and loving heart, anxious not only to show off
aspects of our beautiful, historic church, but even more excited to experience what
God, in His Son’s name, through the power of the Holy Spirit has in store for each
ministry encounter. The one prerequisite we all agree to is that no one leaves the
church without a personal blessing. With each blessing, what I personally have
experienced, God typically shows up through tears, laughter, and gratitude for the
love that has been shared through our Mustard Seed Ministry team.
George Klein agreed to share his personal encounter at a Mustard Seed ministry day.
An Encounter at Mustard Seed Ministry
By George Klein
On Saturday, August 24th, 2024, I spoke with a mother and her two daughters and
showed them around the church and spoke about the history of St. Michael’s. The
three were from New York and the older daughter is a student in a university on
Long Island and the mother and the other daughter live on Long Island. I didn’t
ask of their faith background but after we had spent some time together I asked
them if I could offer a prayer of blessing. They said yes and I did pray for their
blessing. After this prayer I asked if there was anything in their lives that they
would like prayer for. The mother said yes, her husband was having a difficult
time and she would like me to offer a prayer for him, and I did so. The mother said
that they had visited places of worship in other travels, I believe she said cathedrals
and a place of worship that sounded like it might have been of Hindu or some other
faith.
I left them in the sanctuary to further look around the church and perhaps visit the
Churchyard. I then came back to the front door to wait for other visitors. As they
were leaving, I believe I was offering a gift bag and a mustard seed bottle when
the mother said no thank you that they were not Christian’s but Sikhs and they
appeared to have been of Indian heritage. I’m sure I told them that I was pleased
that they had come to visit St. Michael’s, it seemed clear that they enjoyed visiting
places of worship.
Afterward I have been hoping and praying that the prayer for the husband/father
has been answered in a way that will bring this family to realize that there is power
in prayer to Jesus Christ and that He is the true God and He answers prayer.

The Mustard Seed Ministry
“a ministry of blessing”
A Proclamation of His Kingdom
And Jesus said:
“With what can we compare with the Kingdom of God?” What parable should we use for it? “It is like a grain of mustard seed smallest of all the herbal seeds on earth which, when sewn on the ground, and then grows up, it becomes larger than all the garden plants on earth, that puts out large branches so that birds of the air can nest on the branches and find shade.” And know we are the evidence of this great truth; the living branches of God’s Kingdom, redeemed by the power of the cross. We’ve been grafted into His family, adopted as sons and daughters and commissioned as saints.
Therefore we go to proclaim the King and His coming Kingdom, empowered by the Holy Spirit, we are sent to sow the seeds of the gospel among every tribe, tongue, language and people. What a mighty God we serve, ruler of heaven and earth worthy of every word, every thought, every breath. We exist to make His name known. He is our Father, undying in love. He is our Lord, our redeemer our King. He is enthroned for power by the work of Christ alone. We are united in Him, heirs to the Kingdom of God. REMINDED BY THE HUMBLEST OF SEEDS.
