As we spend this month reflecting on how we can end bullying—especially cyberbullying—here are some statistics to keep in mind:
When bullying occurs, bystanders are present80% of the time
When bystanders intervene, bullying stops within 10 seconds57% percent of the time.
It's pretty simple. We need to teach students how to be upstanders to cyberbullying. For that matter, we need to teach students what cyberbullying is, what to do when they see it or what to do if they are cyberbullied themselves. That's why we include a series of lessons on cyberbullying, digital drama, and hate speech in our Cyber Civics curriculum (ask us about them!).
