Intersection Focus
Bike Fort Collins is beginning to identify intersections that we either observe ourselves or hear through the community that need focus or attention from a bicycle friendliness perspective. Watch for us to highlight different intersections and ask you, our readers, subscribers and supporters for input, insight and your experiences.
In this issue we're focused on the intersection of Drake Road and Overland Trail. With a steady flow of vehicular travel heading west bound on Drake, and a popular route for cyclists heading north bound on Overland, this intersection sees its fair share of near misses and confusing (frustrating) interactions.
Although north bound traffic on Overland does, indeed, have right-of-way, this is not always understood by west bound traffic on drake. Have you experienced conflict at this location? Please take a moment to respond to this 3-question survey and help us find ways to improve vehicle/bicycle interactions.

Safe Routes to School
As we reported in our April E-Newsletter, our Safe Routes to School programming looked very different last spring, and will continue to look different this fall, given the Poudre School District's recent announcement that students will be learning remotely through at least October 16.
In April, we described the video series that we were creating to help ensure students still benefited from the bicycle safety curriculum. Click here to see the videos that were completed.
This fall Bike Fort Collins will continue to work with the city to create and produce the needed videos to finish out a complete curriculum series, as well as work with the city and the school district to find additional, innovative ways to deliver Safe Routes to School programming in light of the remote learning environment we are operating in. Stay tuned.

Colorado Bike Month - June 2020
Although we may not have been able to celebrate Colorado Bike Month in our traditional ways, we are grateful to all the folks who participated in our various COVID era social distancing activities. This year's bike moth line-up included a $1 off beer night at Rally King (Thank You!), favorite ride competition, story telling, kids art, and the Remington Bike Count Challenge.
Remington Bike Count Challenge Results
We challenged the community to rival the standing record at the Remington Bike Count, previously set on Tour de Fat 2017. While we may not have beat the record of 1,737, we came so, so close. See the results here.
Bike Stories Challenge Results
For the bike stories challenge we asked people to submit their best bike themed story (fiction or non-fiction) in 500 words or less. We are pleased to announce Jillian Alderman-Marx as the winner of the Bike Stories challenge. Read Jillian's full story here.
Kids Bicycle Art Contest Results
For the kid's bicycle art contest, we asked our young riders to draw their fantasy bike with full creative freedom. A brother/sister duo, our young winners are Fen and Cedar Boes-Yjuico. See their creative two-wheeled creations here.

"Virtual" Tour de Fat
Reminder that Tour de Fat is virtual this year, due to health and safety concerns stemming from COVID0-19. It's essentially now a 2-month long celebration featuring three separate challenges. Visit our Tour de Fat page on website for an overview.
Otherwise, be sure to get your submission in for the first challenge--The Slow Ride Challenge, as today is the deadline. If you participate, post your video to Instagram and tag @tourdefat and @bikefc.
Finally, as it is each year, this year's "Virtual" Tour de Fat is a fundraiser, in which Bike Fort Collins is so grateful to be a beneficiary. Be sure to pick up your SWAG kit, or even make a donation through New Belgium.

"Virtual" Poudre RiverFest
The Poudre RiverFest is also a virtual event this year due to COVID-19. Bike Fort Collins is proud to be one of the sponsoring nonprofits supporting this great annual event that is now a 6-day (from August 24 to August 29) free, family-friendly celebration of the Poudre River, promoting restoration and educating about the river's importance to us as a natural resource in the community.
This year's event features a variety of virtual programming including family fun activities, lunch and learn sessions, streamed live entertainment, as well as self-guided options like Bike Fort Collins' "Stream Ecology Bike Tour" on Saturday, August 29th.
