IT'S COFFEE CLUB WEEK
Join us this Thursday, May 25 at 7:45 a.m. for the Blount Chamber's monthly coffee club at American Foundation & Basement Repairs (1503 Old Mount Tabor Rd., Maryville).

Coffees are designed to offer our members the opportunity to build business relationships with other members and to gain exposure for their business or organization in an "open house" setting. Coffees are open to anyone associated with a Chamber member business. Participation is not reserved to the representative(s) listed on the Chamber membership.

The Dialogue

This feature is a question-and-answer session with a new Blount County Chamber member. So here we go with our 82nd installment visiting with Susan Riggs, president/manager of Rocky Top Finance (321 S. Hall Rd., Alcoa, 865.995.6400) which does consumer personal loans.
 
What goes on at Rocky Top Finance? We help the community in their lending needs. I have 23 years experience in the consumer finance business working for a large chain. I have gone out on my own to make a future for my children.
 
How did you get started? Twenty-three years ago I went to work in a finance office and loved the aspect of meeting the financial needs of the community.
 
What is your background? I worked with large chain for 23 years at entry level and worked my way up to district manager over Tennessee.
 
Who are your mentors? Chris Johns, Melvin Stillman, Midge Taylor
 
Describe your customers. Blue collar, pay check to pay check, and fixed income customers
 
What impacts your business? CFPB, and the State governs our business. Referrals in the community is the largest impact for us.
 
Name three things you wish you knew when you started. I wish I would have known, "you can get more with sugar than vinegar." Collections are tough, but it is easier when you keep the above in mind. Solving problems and helping people thru difficult financial times.
 
What do you enjoy about your business? Meeting the lending needs of the community. Helping people thru financial hardships.
