Funds Still Needed to Purchase Face Coverings for Day of Action Back to School Hygiene Kits
We know Henderson County cares about its community, as we have been overwhelmed by the response to the request for help assembling the Day of Action Back to School Hygiene Kits. In just four short days, we had enough volunteers to assemble all 13,000 kits! Thank you to everyone who has signed up to put together 100 kits (or more) - we could not do this without you!

But, we still need to purchase additional face coverings to have the supplies to create the kits, and we need your donations to help us do that!

Individuals and organizations can sponsor one kit for $5, an entire classroom for $125, or any amount they choose.

You can donate easily by texting ACTION to 71777 or by visiting United Way’s website at, and clicking “Day of Action” on the homepage.

Day of Action is proudly sponsored by Pardee UNC Health Care.

Each year over 37,000 neighbors receive support through the organizations we support. We are so grateful to our incredible community of donors and volunteers that make this work possible.
2020 Virtual Bearfootin' Bear Auction
Starts September 28: Meet Our Thea
As with all things 2020, the popular Bearfootin' Bear auction is pivoting to a virtual auction and you can start bidding on September 28 by visiting their website.

Bids will be accepted through October 24, 2020 at 7 p.m.

All bids will take place via the auction website, and registered bidders will also have the option to bid via text.

Starting bid for all bears is $1,500 and bid increments are $100.  Any bear can be purchased at the "Buy Now" price of $7,500.

On October 24, the city will conduct a virtual Facebook Live event of the auction at 5:30 p.m. on the Downtown Hendersonville page. All bidding will be automatically cut off at 7 p.m., at which point they will announce the winners and the winning bid amounts.

All of the Bearfootin' Bears are designed with a nonprofit agency partner, and we at United Way are super excited to share how our bear, Thea, came to be.
Thea is an inspirational work of art created by local art legends Miriam Hughes and Laura Bell.

In Greek mythology, Thea was a goddess of light. This beautifully brilliant bear is a reflection of the light and love and compassion that is evident throughout Henderson County.

Like Thea, United Way also brings light to dark places and believes in the shining potential of positive change when we work together.

Thea is proudly sponsored by BMW of Asheville.
