Canada Post's Commitment to Reaching Agreements Amid CUPW Strike

As you are likely aware, Canada Post is currently in the midst of a national strike by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), now in its seventh day (as of Nov 21st). This disruption has affected operations across the country, particularly during this critical holiday season.

The strike has had a significant impact on mail and parcel delivery, creating challenges for businesses, including those in our community. Canada Post remains committed to reaching a negotiated agreement with CUPW, with the support of a special mediator.

What to Expect:

  • Mail and parcels have not been processed or delivered since the start of the strike, and some post offices remain closed.
  • All mail and parcels are secure and will be delivered as quickly as possible once operations resume. However, service guarantees will be impacted for items already in the network.
  • No new items will be accepted until the national disruption ends, except for parcel returns, which continue to be accepted at open post offices.
  • Once the strike ends, there will still be delays as processing and delivery return to normal, and businesses should expect continued service disruptions.

What Canada Post Has Offered: Canada Post has made several proposals to protect and improve conditions for its employees, including competitive wage increases, paid leave, and job security provisions. They have also proposed a new delivery model with seven-day-a-week parcel delivery and more competitive pricing to secure the future of the company, which is essential to meeting business needs, including those of local businesses.

We understand the strain this ongoing disruption places on your operations, and we will continue to monitor the situation closely.
