Speaking from experience the syndication business is a tough one. Radio stations have no or little budget to outsource any Canadian programming so it leaves syndicated programs the task to find a source of revenue to cover costs. 

After six years on air Canadian Country Spotlight is going off air due to a lack of funding. Steve Parker says in an open letter " It's with a sad heart that I am announcing the closure of CCMA Award winning program Canadian Country Spotlight. This is due to a recent Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) decision that took away CCSL's Canadian Content Development (CCD) eligibility for funding as of 31 August 2017. We were being supported with some CCD funding from Bell Media Corporate since 2013 flowing from Bell's acquisition of all Astral Broadcasting assets that same year.  While some advertising dollars were provided by Canadian country record labels, our search for a major national sponsor has not been successful. 
It was a great 6 year run for our show. I would like to thank all of our affiliated stations coast to coast for your loyal support for CCSL over the past 6 years.  Our last show will be available for broadcast on the 29th & 30th July weekend. It will be a best of sign off show."

The real problem is that national advertisers are reducing their investment in traditional media and spending those dollars in the digital platform. Radio stations for the most part have put their focus on local programming. It does surprise me to see many stations running US countdown Shows that have no Can Con and actually cost Canadian stations money. In fact I have seen cases of stations running two different US countdown shows each weekend. Same songs different order. 

It is expensive to produce syndicated programming and if you see no revenue stream it is difficult to continue. Sad to see Canadian Country Spotlight go away and we wish Steve Parker and his crew all the best in future endeavors.

TO RELEASE ALBUM
"MAKIN' A LIFE"




Dean has a new single called "Get Your Country On" which is the third single from his soon to be released album "Makin A Life".  We have been impressed by Dean's singles including Tennessee Honey and Carnival Ride. Dean is a great songwriter with lyrics that fans can associate with and has really good production that makes Dean one to watch. 

Dean is excited to announce the upcoming release of his debut original country album, MAKIN' A LIFE. In July 2016, Dean released Tennessee Honey, the first single from the album. Dutch Bickell of Canadianbeats.ca says, "With a twist of modern and classic country sounds, the first single is a great indication of the caliber of Young's musical talent. "

The second single was released January 2017.  Carnival Ride is an  upbeat, fun song that pulls you into the excitement of falling in love; with all its twists and turns.

With his next single, Dean asks "ARE YOU READY TO...?"  Get Your Country On is about taking a break from the fast pace of life. Making the time to reflect on what really matters, while spending time with the people who mean the most.

Dean has performed on a local, national, and international level, to audiences ranging from 400 to 60,000 and feels fortunate to have shared the stage with acts such as REO Speedwagon, Gretchen Wilson, 38 Special, Collective Soul, Train, Jewel, The Belamy Brothers, Jim Cuddy Band, Styx.

Song writing has always been a part of Dean's life and although his writing covers many genres, it's country music that continues to draw his heart as that was the foundation of his youth. For over 34 years, Dean has performed to audiences all over North America, Japan, Bermuda and Mexico and is grateful to be able to share his passion and uplift the people who love and appreciate music.  He feels blessed in the decision to pursue and share his love of music, and he is very grateful for the support.

This sounds like another single for Dan that will reach the top of the charts. It is good to see an indie artist break though which is no easy feat. Having strong material that is well produced and by adding a strong team behind you can make all the difference. We look forward to hearing more from Dan for years to come. 





CFL, SiriusXM Canada Renew Pact  




Football and country music go together. 

The CANADIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE and SIRIUSXM CANADA have renewed their multi-year deal for game coverage heard on the satellite service across NORTH AMERICA.  Every game of the season, including playoffs and the GREY CUP, will air on CANADA TALKS, with OTTAWA REDBLACKS and MONTREAL ALOUETTES games also airing in French on INFLUENCE FRANCO.  "INSIDE THE CFL" will air MONDAYS at noon (ET) on CANADA TALKS, hosted by MICK KERN and BRENT INNIS.

"The CFL is an important property in our roster of major league sports coverage available to subscribers," said SIRIUSXM CANADA SVP JOHN LEWIS. "Whether in the car, at home, or on-the-go, full coverage of all Canadian football action is available."
"We're excited that SIRIUSXM will continue to provide up-close access to all the action during this exciting season," said CFL VP, Corporate Partnerships & Consumer Products TYLER MAZEREEUW. "Our game stretches from coast to coast as does SIRIUSXM's coverage, bringing the CFL right to fans. DARIUS RUCKER: 2 CAREERS, MULTIPLE GRAMMY WINS + 8 #1'S AND STILL EXPERIENCING THINGS "FOR THE FIRST TIME"
