Canadian Robyn Andrews Wins Freestyle Test CPEDI3* Global Dressage Festival I

Ottawa, ON, Jan. 11, 2015-On the final day of competition at CPEDI3* Global Dressage Festival I presented by Adequan, Robyn Andrews won her test for the second day in a row for Canada. The competition was held at The Stadium at Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Wellington, Fla., Jan. 9-11, 2015.

Andrews of St. Johns, N.L. secured the victory in the Grade Ia Freestyle test riding her 2014 World Equestrian Games mare 14-year-old Fancianna, a Friesian-Andalusian cross, to a score of 67.917%.

"I was pleased with Fancy today," said Andrews. "I was a bit tired, but we pulled it off. Many thanks must go to the Global Dressage Festival for putting on a great show. Special thanks to my coach, Amanda Kalvoda ; chef d'quipe, Elizabeth Quigg; Para-Equestrian Canada Director, Amie O'Shaughnessy; and my mom, Diana, for all their support during the show."

With her long-time partner and 2012 Paralympic mount Inspector Rebus (Sambertino x Darwin), her 17-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding, Jody Schloss, of Toronto, Ont., finished in Second in Grade Ia Freestyle with a score of 65.250%.

"I think that Rebus sensed that this might be his last international show and wanted to strut his stuff by unexpectedly cantering around the warm-up ring with me," said Schloss.  "When I got into the ring for my test, I was a concerned that he might be livelier than I wanted, but he settled and really enjoyed the test."

Lauren Barwick of Aldergrove, BC, and her 16-year-old Oldenburg mare, Ferdonia 2 (Don Gregory x Castro), finished in second place in the Grade II Freestyle with a score of 75.000%.

"After a very long and successful 2014 competition year, it was a great pleasure to be reunited with two of my team mates while riding my steady eddy mare Ferdonia," said Barwick, who was Canada's double individual medalist at the 2014 World Equestrian Games. "Even while struggling from a sudden onset of environmental allergies, she put forth a great effort. A huge thank you goes to the Massey family, who solely sponsored this competition for me. I own them an immense amount of gratitude for helping me have this opportunity to compete and enjoy my horse while representing my country with pride."

"We were happy to compete here as a team. It was a positive start to the season in the Florida sunshine," said chef d'quipe, Elizabeth Quigg.

"We are grateful to the organizing committee of the Global Dressage Festival for hosting this international para-dressage competition," said Amie O'Shaughnessy, Director of Para-Equestrian. "It is always a great venue for our team."

The ground jury for today's event consisted of Freddy Leyman (BEL), Kjell Myhre (NOR) and Kristi Wysocki (USA).
