CAMPBELL RIVER: Bob Bray announces that his petition calls for more freedom through simpler voting regulations and pushes back against the same people who are hellbent on safety regulations for lockdowns and health identity cards.

Canadian Vote by Mail Avoids Face Mask Folly
The vote by mail option is a proper and usually minor exception to the benefits of one day voting for voters who are:
  • 1 - away from riding due to military service
  • 2 - away from riding due to business or pleasure travel
  • 3 - unable to attend the polling place due to illness or mobility issues
  • 4 - motivated to escape from wearing a face mask while marking a ballot

I applied for my vote by mail kit and received it on September 6.

It looks like this:

Face Mask Folly

A few days ago I came across the August 22nd Swiss Policy Research review called The Face Mask Folly in Retrospect. It's about our fixation with face masks, and I divided it up on my Social Mavrik website into a series of separate web pages.

The executive summary is great:

Sweden: The exception that proved the rule

Only very few countries in the world have resisted the face mask folly. The most famous example certainly is Sweden (see charts below), which has also resisted the lockdown experiment. Naturally, Swedish coronavirus mortality has remained below the European average. But the many vicious attacks against Sweden by much of the international media showed just how difficult it has been to escape the global madness and follow the real science during this bizarre pandemic.
---------------------------------------

The introduction is brilliant:

It has been known for decades that face masks don’t work against respiratory virus epidemics.

Why has much of the world nonetheless fallen for the face mask folly?

Ten reasons.

-----------------------------------------------

The 20 charts illustrate the point:

How face masks and lockdowns failed

  • the following charts show that infections have been driven primarily by seasonal and endemic factors, whereas mask mandates and lockdowns have had no discernible impact.

One example:

Here is one of the charts comparing Sweden that had no mask mandates and no lockdowns to the United Kingdom that tried both.

The above chart is sourced from the World Health Organization, uses 7-day averages of daily new deaths per 1 million people and shows weekly amounts for 20 months from January 3, 2020 to July 2, 2021.

Two weeks beyond the period of the chart, on July 19, 2021, the United Kingdom declared "Freedom Day" by ending their legal lockdown and mask mandate.

My index of 20 charts:

a) Daily New Deaths per 1M – 4 charts
  • Sweden, Germany, United Kingdom
  • California/Texas
b) Daily New Cases per 1M – 6 charts
  • United States, Israel, Belgium, Czech Republic
  • Arizona/California/Nevada, Arkansas/Louisiana/Mississippi
  • Iceland
d) Daily New Cases – 8 charts
  • United Kingdom, Australia, France, Spain
  • Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand
  • Hawaii

One Day Voting Initiative Petition - IP-2021-001
The name of this legislative petition is: Initiative to change the voting opportunities in provincial elections.

The petition is described on the Current Initiative Petitions page of the Elections BC website along with the Public Notice which can be seen here.

As I write there are 4 canvassers registered by Elections BC for signature gathering from folks who prefer strengthening their community by having almost everyone vote on a single day at an in-person event in their neighbourhood over those who feel the easiness of vote-by-mail and the convenient options of early voting are totally without nefarious consequences.

On the Social Mavrik list the ridings of the 4 canvassers are shown.

Registering as a Canvasser is open and encouraged.

Watching Brief - Policing Petition - IP-2021-002

The petition is described on the Current Initiative Petitions page of the Elections BC website.

At the time of writing 318 + 10 = 328 canvassers are registered for signature gathering from folks who prefer national policing over local policing.
