The Enemy's Deadly Weapons
We think with horror of the CANNIBAL who feasts on the still warm and trembling flesh of his victim; but are the results of even cannibalism any more terrible then are the agony and ruin caused by those misrepresenting motive, blackening reputation, dissecting character and alleged half-truths about others?
Not only is this cancel culture extremely prevalent in the current day politics of this world but we also see it in the Christian churches in the form of accusation, innuendo, gossip, slander, jealousy and smear against those that don't think, act or carry on just exactly as we do. God would weep!
Truly “Death and life are in the power of the tongue” Proverbs 18:21
If I could give you a SIMPLE PRESCRIPTION that would cure most of the problems in our society, institutions, churches, ministries, families and friendships, would you apply it?
1st principle. “If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him ALONE. If he hears you, you have gained your brother. But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more that by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.” Matthew 18:15,16 Wow! If we follow this the vast majority of strife among us would be ended! Lord, let it begin with me!
2nd principle is the law concerning witnesses. “Don’t listen to allegations against a leader unless it is brought by at least two or three witnesses.” 1 Timothy 5:19, Deuteronomy 19:15-20 Can you imagine what division, discord and strife would be eliminated if we’d follow this simple, Biblical principle of having witnesses, instead of just hearsay, accusations, smear and fake news!
3rd principle is actually found in the Constitution of United States as well as the Scriptures. It Is in the 6th amendment and is considered the confrontation clause and provides that, “The accused shall enjoy the right to be confronted with the witness against him.”
You and I have the right and opportunity to face our accusers and to put their honesty and truthfulness to test before others. Wow, wouldn’t that ever kill the smear, innuendo, slander and gossip so overly prevalent today in the cancel culture!
God’s word says it this way, “The accused meets the accusers face-to-face, and has opportunity to answer for himself concerning the charge against him.” Acts 25:16
These 3 principles make sure that the accuser understands the SERIOUS NATURE of the process. It also allows the accused to cross examine those that slander him. Praise God, hallelujah and amen!
All any of us ever really want is FAIRNESS and to be heard. These principles, if acted out allow for such.
Truly the converted person has no inclination to think or talk of the faults of others and real Christians will not exalt in exposing others faults and deficiencies. “He who covers a transgression seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates friends.” Proverbs 17:9
Let us NOW put an end to the devil’s weapon (cancel culture) among us!
