Cancer & Me video series: The journey 

The Cancer & Me series features 4 stories of people diagnosed with cancer.


Cancer & Me is a 7-video series about the cancer journey. In our lives we, or someone we love, will be diagnosed with cancer. Today, doctors and researchers have a better understanding of the causes of cancer so we can work towards prevention. We have the tools and technology to treat cancer early so more people can have better outcomes. 

To raise awareness and support for those who are or will be affected by cancer, North York General Hospital, the North York Family Health Team and Cancer Care Ontario have developed the Cancer & Me video series that takes you through the journey: prevention, screening, diagnosis and treatment, and the stories of 4 people diagnosed with cancer.

 

NYGH and Toronto Police Service: A community partnership

 

North York General Hospital has partnered with the Toronto Police Service to launch a new Mobile Crisis Intervention Team (MCIT).

  

MCITs consist of a specially trained police officer and a mental health nurse who respond to 911 emergency and police dispatch calls, 7 days a week between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. In this program, the police officer and the registered nurse respond to calls for assistance for individuals who are experiencing a mental health crisis.

Postpartum depression: Signs, symptoms and support 
    
Depressed new mother receives comfort. It can be hard to talk about feeling depressed after having a baby because of our society's belief that this should be the "happiest time in your life." If you are suffering from postpartum depression, the time after you give birth feels anything but joyful.


Postpartum depression affects 1 in 10 women who have had a child, and can affect any woman, regardless of her age, race or economic background," says Dr. Thomas Ungar, Chief and Medical Director of Psychiatry at North York General Hospital. "It does not mean that there is anything wrong with your ability to be a mother."
