A Thank You from the Executive Director
As we conclude our Spring fundraising season we have so much to be grateful for! We finished Fundraising with Friends, our main annual fundraising campaign, unexpectedly blowing past our goal and raising $312,000 in a record 4-weeks! Then we raised another $18,000 for GiveBig which ran immediately after.

We are grateful for the support from so many!

First and foremost, thanks to all of YOU who provided generous donations to help ensure we keep all our incredible programming free of charge. We also appreciate your patience with all our fundraising emails and social media posts.

We had an incredible team of volunteers from our Board and Advisory Board who made up our Fundraising with Friends committee this year; Reetu Ghumman, Katie Richey, Tiffany Courtnage, and Judy Petersen and they were guided by truly fantastic co-chairs, Sue Drummond and Steven Gerlock.

We had 31 Fundraising Champions this year and two teams of Champions! (See full list below) With 100% participation from our Board of Directors, and 100% staff participation, we also saw several Advisory Board members and a Lifeline volunteer join the ranks of Fundraising Champs. We even had a few parties hosted where funds were raised on our behalf. Our team kept it fun, and in the end, we awarded some prizes to some of our super-stars!

Speaking of super-stars, our Board President, Dr. Susan Baumgaertel really threw it down this year, raising her personal fundraising goal to $50,0000-and exceeding that goal-which is absolutely amazing! Joanna Diallo (Board) & her daughter captured another fun moment in their personal video for the campaign which was a standout. Three brand new members of our community, Veronica Dalton (staff), Kathy Porada (Board) & Robin Riveland (Lifeline volunteer) introduced us to so many new donors and learned they have a knack for fundraising!

We share some extra special gratitude to those who have been impacted by cancer and who shared their stories on video or with testimonials. Your messages were true and valued and your grace to share yourself on our behalf is a gift to so many.

We had more sponsors this year than ever before, and this helped us immeasurably! Once again, here’s a look at these incredible organizations who give back to our community and deserve an extra accolade-or two!

So, thanks again to all our team members and to all of YOU who helped make our Spring fundraising efforts exceed our goals. We all know it feels great to meet your goals, but at Cancer Lifeline we never forget that it’s not about the numbers and our team never lost sight of the fact that their efforts go right back into supporting those in our community who are struggling with cancer. Our team never forgets that cancer exacts a heavy toll, whether emotionally, mentally, physically, socially, professionally or financially-or for many-in all of these ways. For 50 years Cancer Lifeline has been here to help ease the burdens of a cancer diagnosis and work hard to improve the quality of life for those affected.

We couldn’t do it without you!

Monthly Blog: Food, Nutrients and Healing
with Ami Karnosh, MSc, Nutrition
As we move through different stages of wellness, our bodies need proper nutrition to stay healthy, fight illness, and heal from all sorts of scenarios. We want to make sure to give the body as much of these nutrients as the tools it needs to do these jobs. We also want to make sure we aren’t contributing to inflammation or fostering illness either. While it is very common to eliminate certain foods as we navigate through life, when providing the optimum environment for healing, it is more important to focus on providing plenty of high-quality nourishing foods to give our bodies enough of the tools (i.e. nutrients) so that it has the power to stay strong. Eliminating certain foods can be a powerful tool done very short-term in partnership with highly qualified nutrition specialists. Done too long or inappropriately, eliminating foods can be more harmful than helpful in the long run. So what to do? Read More.
Volunteer Spotlight: Get to know Robin
Robin was on her way out of the Breast Center at Valley Medical Center when she saw a Cancer Lifeline flyer. She grabbed one to look over at home and decided to give some of our classes a try. Through the classes, she was able to ease back into her yoga practice, gather some healthy recipes to try out and realized that she can draw and how therapeutic the creative expression process could be. She quickly discovered that seeing and talking with others that could relate with shared experiences was more helpful than she had realized- she was not alone.

A few months later, she decided to become a Lifeline Volunteer because, through her experience, she knew how important receiving emotional support can be when living with cancer. She is very passionate about outreach within the community so that more people can learn about and benefit from many of the programs and services provided at Cancer Lifeline.

A fun fact about Robin: She was a full-blown adult before she did her first backpacking trip and hasn't stopped enjoying the wilderness and outdoors ever since. She's now added other activities she enjoys like kayaking and trailer camping. Being in nature is so powerful~ she is always ready to go on her next adventure. When asked what the most fulfilling part of volunteering has been so far, her answer was:

"It's the satisfaction of doing something that truly helps. By actively listening, I provide the space needed for clients so they can openly process their experience in a safe and supportive environment." Interested in becoming a volunteer? Learn more here.

Program Spotlight: In-Person Creative Expression Workshops for Families in Bellevue
Saturdays, June 10 & 24, July 8 & 22 & August 12; 10am-12pm
If you are a family with young children
ages 6-9 that includes a parent living with cancer, our Creative Workshops for Families Facing Cancer may be just right for you. With a range of creative activities that are appropriate for children, each workshop in this series allows your children to safely explore their feelings and thoughts about their parent and the impact of cancer in the family. Parents are welcome but not required to attend (unless their children need this additional support). The workshops will be limited to 10 children and are professionally facilitated by an expressive arts psychotherapist, utilizing both her training and a book called Magnificent Marvelous Me, a social and emotional learning tool created by Art with Heart. Your child(ren) may attend individual workshops or the whole series of workshops. You must sign up at least one week in advance of each workshop date so that we can confirm your child’s readiness and share more detailed information about what to expect.
Activities may include, but not be limited to, creating nameplates and learning about each other; drawing continuous line self-portraits with emotional expression; thank-you card making for people who help us; exploring family trees and traditions; creating feelings flip books unique to each child; exploring frustration and regulating emotions with scribbling and collage; sorting out feelings with clay and storytelling, calm place visualizations and keyhole boxes; building a heart city together; decorating and using a worry box; foil sculptures of friendly creatures, among others. Located in Bellevue. For more information, email Pamela
