Candles are the reminder of the miracle of Hanukkah,
but candles also have meaning to many faiths.
When we light the candles of the Menorah we use a candle called the Shamash, which in English would mean servant or helper.
The Shamash candle carries the light to each of the daily candles.
Long before the invention of electricity people would commonly pass a light from their candle to a neighbor to help them enlighten their house, or their way.
We may be of different faiths with different beliefs, but we are all here to help one another.
We have all done things in life where we have passed our light onto others, likely in more ways than we know.
May we all be blessed by helping one another, and passing on our light during this holiday season, as well as the days and years that follow.
