Another GREAT
Cherokee Strip Celebration!
T he 2019 Cherokee Strip Celebration was a hit! A large crowd lined the square to watch the parade, beginning with the Chain Ranch Longhorns and finishing up with the EHS Big Blue Band. Following the parade, people enjoyed delicious food and a beautiful day of activities on the courthouse lawn! The Enid Chamber is proud to coordinate the Cherokee Strip festivities every year to commemorate the largest land run in history. It would not be possible without the support from our event sponsors and Community Development Partners!

A special thank you goes out to the Enid Chamber Ambassadors who made up our Cherokee Strip Parade Committee: Joy Frye, Keri Haines, Margaret Williams and Robin Pokorny. These ladies put in extra time and made sure the parade ran smoothly!

We also appreciate the time and support from our parade judges: Stephanie Pendergraft, Enid Chamber Ambassador Chairman; Col. Corey Simmons, Vance Air Force Base; Natalie Beurlot, Main Street Enid; Mike Ruby, Enid Chamber Citizen of the Year.

LGE Class XXIX Spotlight
Sarah Brennan
 Hometown : Enid, OK
Family: Married with 2 kiddos, Mac is 10 and Lillian is 7.
Occupation/Profession: Realtor - I guide people through the process of buying or selling their homes. I love that I get to be a part of peoples lives and am blessed to work with amazing people. Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, Anderson Properties of Enid.
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received? We impress people with our strengths but we connect with them through our weaknesses. To be” real” has been the best advice I have been given.
What qualities do you look for in a leader? I think the best quality of a leader is one who empowers others. Often times I think leaders take on all the responsibilities and don’t think they have the time to seek out potential in others and look for ways to grow that potential they see.
If you could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, what would you have a good chance at winning a medal for? Well....when I got married the pastor who was my principal growing up described me as a “ping pong ball in a wind tunnel” so I would say I would win for multitasking! I always have tons of stuff going on all at the same time.
Favorite thing about Enid? The people! I LOVE the people here. Enid people are giving, even if they don’t have much to give. It is humbling to me to see the community rally around others to provide support in hard times. Recently I’ve loved seeing the passion to grow Enid...that is really fun to see!
K atie Burgoon Long
Hometown: Cedar Hill, Texas
Family: I’m married to the Rev. Andrew Long, and we have one son, Theo, who is 2. We also have 2 dogs, Shadow (7) and Gus (16).
Occupation/Profession: I’m the Assistant Director for Loaves & Fishes - NW Oklahoma. I oversee pantry operations, social media, communications with donors & volunteers, and coordinate all food drives.
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received? Don’t go borrowing trouble.
What qualities do you look for in a leader? Honesty, transparency, and someone who is willing to listen to the ideas of others
If you could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, what would you have a good chance at winning a medal for? Getting a toddler dressed for the day
Favorite thing about Enid? I love all of the activities that are available (First Friday, Symphony, Leonardo’s, Gaslight, etc.) We have a lot of opportunities that are not normally available in a town our size.
