Counties in the News

St. Joseph County :  County board of commissioners and Animal Control Advisory Board members are reaching out to Otsego County for information and ideas from Melissa FitzGerald, animal control director in Otsego County. FitzGerald and a grass-roots group of concerned citizens, Friends for Life of Otsego  County,  have built a successful No Kill shelter.  See the story here.

Macomb County:   Animal control regulations have been u pdated for the first time since 2003. Animals acquired  by the  shelter will be micro chipped to ensure that more lost pets are reunited with their families, the sale of exotic pets has been banned county-wide, and  animal control will ensure that best practices are in place by requiring age-appropriate vaccines to decrease the likelihood of illnesses like canine influenza breaking out in kennels.
