After the Wilderness Part 3: Thoughts from Pastor Don
In part three of our After the Wilderness series, Israel faces their first real opposition in Jericho.
The really amazing thing about the battle of Jericho is that there was no battle! It's something that is summarized for us in Joshua 6:2, when the Lord says to Joshua:
"See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and it's fighting men."
When we turn to the pages of the New Testament and ask the question, "How did the walls of Jericho fall down?", the letter to the Hebrews gives us the explicit answer: "not by military warfare or power, but by faith in the promise of God"
The verses in chapter 6:1-20 give us the narrative of that glorious divine victory. They do so, in three parts, each of which is packed full of drama and carrying for us the most important spiritual lessons we could ever imagine. The most important one is when it comes down to doing things our way or God’s, who will we trust? God’s way may seem foolish. It always requires faith, and it might just seem a little crazy (March around the city of Jericho for 7 days, and the walls will come down? Sure they will...). Again,
who will we trust?
