CPSD is awarded more than $52,000 to support Creative Learning Projects
Nissan and BankPlus officials awarded the Canton Public School District 18 mini-grants totaling $52,894.00. The mini-grants will support innovative teaching and challenging learning projects that teachers created to increase student achievement. The Nissan/BankPlus Education Mini-Grant Program, administered by the Community Foundation of Greater Jackson, provides funding for projects that the school's budget will not cover.
The grants, aligned with state-mandated curricula, have a wide range of engaging topics: "Get Happy with Phonics", "Reaching Dreams Through Magazines: Science World" and "Read to Lead" are just a few examples. These funds will enable teachers to purchase robotics kits, science laboratory supplies, a printer to enable the publishing of original writing and so much more.
CPSD Superintendent Ike Haynes thanks Nissan, BankPlus and the Community Foundation of Greater Jackson for selecting these deserving educational projects that met their criteria to support the district's educational curricula in grades K-12.
This year Nissan and BankPlus awarded 34 grants totaling $89,360 to educators in the Canton and Madison County school districts. Since 2003, Nissan and its employees have awarded more than $11 million in educational grants, scholarships and in-kind gifts. Nissan employees give of their time as well, volunteering in classrooms, as one-on-one mentors or as board members for nonprofits focused on youth development and education.
"Education is a powerful asset that will help our students reach their full potential," says Steve Marsh, Nissan's vice president, Manufacturing. "Encouraging students to learn and grow is the objective of these grants because we know that what they learn in classrooms today will shape our community and our workforce in the future."
Nissan held a reception at its assembly plant in Canton to honor the winning educators. The district thanks its supportive community partners for helping make a positive impact in the lives of its students.
