August 2023 | Volume 49

Note from the Director

Time continues to fly, a little too fast for my sense of comfort, but we hope after August, things will slow down, cool down and school for kids and college students will be off to great start. At the JSU Canyon Center, don’t miss the upcoming school programs and our small stage May's Gulf Songwriter Series. We have lots of cool stuff planned to help beat the heat!

July at the Canyon Center ended well with a terrific Bluegrass on the Rim Alabama Public Television production which aired statewide on July 27th. It featured our talented bands, but at the end of the show it also highlighted a few guest comments including one that said it all, “Bluegrass on the Rim is like a little piece of heaven.” I think that we can all agree with that! If you missed the concert or the APT show, you could watch the hour long program here.

Another terrific event at the Canyon Center was the “After Hours” Chamber of Commerce event. It attracted over 60 local leaders for short presentations, drinks, appetizers, and lots of fun including a crazy photo booth, courtesy of Rickey Moore's Bama Photo Booths.

As always, if you have comments, questions, or ideas for us at the Canyon Center, we hope you’ll let us know.

Director,

Pete Conroy

We are overjoyed to announce the newest additions to our office family! Please join us in celebrating the arrival of two bundles of joy.

Our Little River Canyon Center Facilities Coordinator, Brooks Gallman and his wife Katie welcomed a baby girl on June 28th. Beth Sewell, Little River Canyon Center Education Associate, and her husband Paul welcomed a baby boy on July 1st. Please join us in sending our heartfelt congratulations to Brooks, Beth, and their families.

As the summer days start to wind down and we welcome the approaching fall season, it's time to look back on the exciting activities we've enjoyed. This summer has been a blast, filled with engaging field trips, adventurous summer camps, and fantastic free programs such as Canyon Kids each month, Paleontology talks and more. We love sharing the beauty of Little River!

We are proud to have hosted field trips and a teacher workshop for hundreds of students and teachers this summer. We also enjoyed catching fish, hiking, making homemade ice cream and more with Canyon Campers. We are excited to offer several free programs to soak up these final days of summer vacation. We hope to see you soon!
