  • Recently, a shipwreck believed to be the George W. Wells was unearthed on Ocracoke Island. Seashore Interpretive Ranger, Dave Kent, traveled to Ocracoke to film a short video about the rediscovered wreck from 1913.
  • The remainder of seasonal off-road vehicle routes reopened this morning. The routes can be accessed via ramps 23, 34, 38, 49, 55, and 68. Go to http://go.nps.gov/beachaccess for updated beach access information.
  • The Bodie Island Lighthouse was first lit on October 1, 1872. Over the years the lighthouse was home to 41 lightkeepers and their families who would share the work of maintaining the station.
