Spring Musical Auditions Announced
Cape Cod Academy is pleased to announce its spring musical production: Samantha Spade, Ace Detective. This is a film-noir-detective-story-musical by Georgia Stitt and Lisa Diana Shapiro. There will be two performances at Cape Cod Academy: Friday, April 14, at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 15, at 2:00 p.m.
The musical is about Samantha, a lonely, misfit. After getting bullied in camp, she retreats to the old detective movies she loves, entering a film noir fantasy world where she is Samantha Spade, Ace Detective. This show is perfect for all audiences and was the National Youth Arts 2014 Winner of Outstanding New Musical.
The cast is open to Cape Cod Academy students in grades 2 through 12. Auditions will be held on Tuesday, January 3 and Thursday, January 5 or by appointment after school in the Lower School Music Room. Students in grades 4-12 may audition for a lead role. Anyone who does not wish to audition for a named role, may sign up with Mrs. Koglin, CCA’s Music Teacher, at kkoglin@capecodacademy.org.

CCA’s Athletic Director Attends Conference with Education Leaders on Preventing and Addressing Hate in School Sports
In an effort to prevent and address hate and bias in school sports, Governor-elect Maura Healey, the outgoing attorney general, partnered with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents (MASS), the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA), and the Massachusetts School Administrators’ Association (MSAA) to host a conference called “Addressing Hate in School Sports" at the TD Garden. CCA’s Athletic Director, Jeff Conlon, attended the conference on December 8.
"It was a great opportunity to represent CCA at this important conference," said Conlon. "I gathered great information, including the goals to ensure all students feel safe in a positive and inclusive sports environment."
The purpose of this event was to give school administrators, athletic directors and staff, coaches, and referees tools and best practices for building positive environments and handling hateful incidents. This conference was part of an initiative the Attorney General's Office launched with educational organizations earlier this year.
Following this event, regional trainings across the state will be conducted in 2023 by Northeastern University’s Center for the Study of Sport in Society to provide more in-depth training and equip school and athletic program leaders with the tools they need to empower and support their students and to prevent and address hate.

CCA's Winterim is Coming
Cape Cod Academy is excited to hold Winterim again in January. Winterim is a four-day program held between semesters when students take a break from the classroom to explore an area of interest in one of five areas: Conservation and Stewardship, Academic Study, Outdoor Adventure, Service Learning, or Cultural Immersion. Winterim begins on Tuesday, January 17 and runs through Friday, January 20. Students choose their Winterim experience, and guided by local experts and faculty, engage in hands-on learning, creation, and field trips. The program culminates with a community event in which students showcase their work.

A Note from the School Nurse
All of our remaining COVID-19 testing kits were distributed again this week during drop-off at the Lower School & Upper School Circles. These tests were provided by the Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
If you need additional tests, most insurance plans cover up to eight at-home COVID tests per month through local pharmacies, such as CVS and Walgreens.
We continue to encourage you to test your children within 24 hours of their return from the winter break. Have a safe and healthy holiday.
--Gina Smith RN, School Nurse

Emergency Notification for School Closings
Please be aware of the three different ways we communicate school cancellations, delays, and/or unexpected early dismissals:
(1) We post an announcement on the landing page on our school website.
(2) We post an announcement on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
(3) We use BrightArrow, an automated notification system that will contact you directly via phone call, text message, and/or email. This third method is what we would use in case of any other type of school-wide emergency, like a “shelter in place".

Parents' Association General Meeting
The next PA General Meeting will be held on Friday, January 6 at 8:00 a.m. in the Ungerman Library. The meeting will run from 8:00 to 8:30 a.m., and an agenda will be available prior to this meeting on the Resource Board on the website and also on the PA's Facebook page: Cape Cod Academy Parents' Association.
The PA General Meeting will be followed by an update on campus security by Jeff Thompson, Head of School, and then a special speaker presentation on CCA's Personalized Approach to Learning (PAL) Program by Nancy Boyle, Director of Personalized Learning, and Amy Powers, Learning Specialist. Throughout the fall, Nancy, Amy, and the specialists in the Learning Center have been hard at work rolling out the PAL program, designing PAL classes, developing PAL Profiles, and devising personalized in-person and online learning opportunities for students. Come hear about the exciting success this program has had in middle and upper school and learn about our plans to extend the program to lower school this year. This meeting will be recorded and available afterwards.
