All-School Field Day
All-School Field Day 2023 will be held on Tuesday, June 6 from 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. We look forward to this tradition of wrapping up the year with camaraderie and healthy competition between our Team Blue and Team White members.
If your child has grown out of his/her field day shirt, there is an inventory of replacement shirts. Please email Jeff Conlon at jconlon@capecodacademy.org to obtain a new shirt. If you have a question about what field day team your child is on, visit the Resource Board on our website to view the team rosters.

Meghan Farley Appointed to the Princeton Review National College Counselor Advisory Board
Meghan Farley, Cape Cod Academy’s Director of College Counseling, has once again been appointed to the Princeton Review National College Counselor Advisory Board. This is Ms. Farley’s 11th year serving on the Advisory Board. The Princeton Review selects only 25 high school college counselors from private and public high schools all across the country each year. As part of the Advisory Board, Ms. Farley provides feedback and insight on college counseling matters, college admissions, and other current events. She has also presented at various professional development conferences across the country. Congratulations, Ms. Farley!

Thank you for Supporting the "Solutionaries" Project
Grace McGlinchey '28 and Laine Jansen '28 would like to share a note of appreciation for those who supported their "Solutionaries" project as part of their seventh-grade Global Issues class: "Thank you so much to everyone who donated items for the comfort bags for foster children. We were able to make 40 bags, which we gave to the Department of Children and Families. We also gave extra stuffed animals to the Osterville Fire Department for children." - Grace and Laine

Girls' & Boys' Varsity Tennis Teams Win Cape & Islands League Championships
|
|
Congratulations to both our boys' and girls' varsity tennis teams who won the Cape & Islands League Championships this spring. Our two tennis teams, along with both of our varsity lacrosse teams, will be playing in the upcoming MIAA tournament. This is the first time in nearly 20 years that Cape Cod Academy has had four teams play in the tournament in the same season! We are waiting to hear tournament pairings and schedules and will share those when they become available.

JV Tennis Wins the Cape Cod Super Six Championship
Cape Cod Academy's JV Tennis Team won the Cape Cod Super Six Championship on Tuesday, which was hosted at CCA. Congratulations to our team and the following individual winners:

Quinn Taylor Chosen to Participate in USA Hockey Select Camp
Congratulations to Cape Cod Academy's Quinn Taylor '26. Quinn has been selected to the Girls' U18 Select Camp as one of only three forward hockey players selected from the entire state. This is part of the 2023 USA Hockey National Player Development Camp. Quinn was one of 34 in the country to be invited to the camp, where she will compete to make a roster spot for the USA U-18 National Team.

Spring Sports Schedules for Next Week

Students Give Outstanding Musical Performances at Spring Concert
Cape Cod Academy's Annual Spring Concert took place on Wednesday. The concert included music from students in kindergarten through grade 5, the fourth- and fifth-grade strings and band, the middle school chamber ensemble, CCA's Chorale, and the Seahawk Rock Band.

Upper School Students Learn about Court Proceedings
Students in the Mock Trial Seminar have been learning about courts, law, and the Mock Trial program. Last week, they visited the Barnstable Court Complex where they watched a trial and spoke with court officials. This week, they met with two lawyers to learn more about law as a career path.

Students Give Asian Pacific Islanders Presentations
Lower school students learned about Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month at a recent morning meeting. Many of our lower school students, as shown in this picture, are proud Asian Americans. We salute all of our Asian American families at Cape Cod Academy!

Fifth Graders Complete Capstone Project
For their capstone project in world language class, fifth graders created world cultures, which they showed off during assembly last week. The students described their cultures in speeches in Spanish and Chinese and showed posters, drawings, and 3D-printed buildings as part of the displays.

First Graders Learn about Asian Americans
As part of their world language class, first graders learned about I.M. Pei, an Asian American who designed the National Gallery East Wing in Washington, DC. Students used magnetic tiles to then build their own version of the East Wing.

Sixth Graders Complete Math Projects
After finishing their math unit on finding the surface area and volume of prisms, pyramids, cylinders, cone, and spheres, sixth graders could choose any shape(s) to create a realistic model (e.g.: gumball machine [sphere and cylinder]). They also had to pose a problem for the class to solve.

Seventh Graders Visit National Seashore
Seventh graders visited the Cape Cod National Seashore, specifically the Great Island in Wellfleet on Tuesday. This complements their social studies focus on conservation and national parks. The students met with Stephen Smith who is a Plant Ecologist at the Cape Cod National Seashore and has expertise in plant physiology and plant community ecology and is currently conducting research on salt marshes. The students then hiked the trails around the seashore.

Third Graders Visit Historical Landmarks on Cape Cod
Third graders visited Marconi Beach in Wellfleet, where the first transatlantic communications between the U.S. and Europe took place. They then visited the Pilgrim Monument in Provincetown because they have been studying the route the Pilgrims took--first arriving in Provincetown and ultimately settling in Plymouth.

Sixth Graders Enjoy Conch Shell Master Class
Retired Navy musician, Don Chilton, visited Cape Cod Academy last week to give a presentation on playing the conch shell and didgeridoo. This was part of our sixth graders' study of world music.

Eighth Graders Visited Newport, RI as Part of PAL Fridays
As part of their PAL (Personalized Approach to Learning) Fridays program, our eighth graders visited Newport, RI last Friday to explore some of the seminal places in First Amendment history. This complements their in-depth studies on First Amendment rights and their application from many perspectives. Colonial Newport was home to many religious dissenters, and their stories helped forge the First Amendment protections of freedom of speech, assembly, and worship.
