MAP Growth Testing Begins Next Week
MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) Growth testing will begin next week for students in the middle and upper school. Our students in grades 3-8 will take the test the week of October 11-14. Cape Cod Academy implemented the MAP Growth test two years ago to chart student growth and chose this particular test because it is instrumental in learning more about each student’s unique needs and allowing us to measure their progress.
The MAP Growth assessment challenges every student; as a student answers a question, the test adjusts. If an answer is correct, the next question is harder. If an answer is incorrect, the next question is easier. In this way, teachers learn exactly where each student currently performs, which is an important difference from traditional tests that determine if a student is at, above, or below grade level. MAP informs teachers so they can adjust the curriculum accordingly to better meet students' needs, and ultimately, increasing achievement. For additional details and further explanation on this assessment, click here.

CCA's Nurse Heads to Florida to Aid Hurricane Victims
Gina Smith, Cape Cod Academy's School Nurse and Commander of one of the National Disaster Medical Assistance Teams, is leaving today for Florida to help provide medical care for those affected by Hurricane Ian. She expects to return by October 14.
Ms. Smith has worked for the US Department of Health and Human Services in Washington DC for more than 25 years. She has also been a key clinical advisor to the therapeutics team for COVID-19 outpatient monoclonal antibodies. In fact, this past August, she received the COVID-19 Pandemic Civilian Service Medal for exemplary service to the nation as part of the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) during the federal medical response to the COVID-19 pandemic. She received the medal during the recent National Disaster Medical System Training Summit in Indianapolis, Indiana. Congratulations, Ms. Smith, and safe travels.

There are still spots available to our students who would like to ride the bus. We are excited to be working with a new school bus service with Zeelo, who provides online booking platforms, live vehicle tracking, and status notifications. There is special pricing for October and for annual passes. In November, the athletics schedule changes, and the bus may be an afternoon option for your child. You can view routes and times here. Lower School's Citizens of the Week
|
|
Congratulations to Sam Cundiff '30 and Walker Sparks '32 who have been selected as Citizens of the Week!
Sam Cundiff has been an amazing friend and student in fifth grade. He is always helping classmates and his teacher throughout the day. Sam is kind and thoughtful in his actions, including classmates in activities and being a friend to all. He is a role model in his fifth-grade classroom and in the lower school for all the younger students.
|
|
Walker approaches all interactions in class with a kind heart and works hard to include all classmates in discussions and activities. He is the first to help a classmate in need or jump onto the clean-up crew before a class transition. He has a remarkable work ethic, consistently comes to class prepared to work, and remains focused throughout class activities and individual work time. He greets people in the morning with a genuine smile and exemplifies CCA’s four pillars, especially sportsmanship.
