A weekly update for
Cape Cod Academy families
|
|
|
Welcome back to school and to a new year. I hope that you had a relaxing break and enjoyed time with family and friends.
I want to thank you for your patience this week as we awaited the results from our COVID-19 RT-PCR testing. We certainly did not think results would take as long to receive as they did. We recognize the importance of in-school learning, and conducting this routine testing goes one step further in ensuring the safety of our students and extended community. It certainly proved beneficial this week.
We continue to update our COVID Safety Protocols and review any changes proposed by the CDC or the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. In light of their recent changes, we have made a slight revision to our COVID Safety Protocols, which you can view here. If you have any questions, please reach out to Ian Carr, CCA's COVID-19 & Crisis Incident Coordinator, at iancarr@capecodacademy.org.
Because we place such a premium on in-person instruction, and we lost a few days this week, we have made a schedule change. Originally, Friday, January 14th was to be a half-day of school so that faculty could participate in professional development. That has been changed. Friday will now be a full day of school for lower and middle school students, and upper school students will wrap up their mid-year exams. If this change presents a conflict to plans you have already made, please let us know.
Thank you again for your ongoing support and flexibility.

Important Note From The Nurse's Office
Please remember to email Ms. Smith, our school nurse, proof of vaccination when your child has been vaccinated for COVID-19. Children who are fully vaccinated could be eligible for exemptions from testing and quarantine protocols at CCA. She can be contacted via email at nurse@capecodacademy.org.

Emergency Notification for School Closings
Please be aware of the three different ways of communication for school cancellations, delays, and/or unexpected early dismissals:
(1) We post an announcement on the landing page on our school website.
(2) We post an announcement on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
(3) We use BrightArrow, an automated notification system that will contact you directly via phone call, text message, and/or email. This third method is what we would use in case of any other type of school-wide emergency, like a “shelter in place".

Auditions for the Spring Play
Cape Cod Academy is planning the musical production of The Little Mermaid with two performances that will be held on April 22 and 23. CCA's production of this play was originally scheduled to take place in the spring of 2020 but was canceled due to COVID. Auditions will be held this month with dates to be announced soon. Middle and upper school students interested in performing in The Little Mermaid will need to audition. Materials to prepare for auditions may be found in Mrs. Koglin's room. Lower school students in grades K-5 are also invited to be a part of the cast, but they do not need to audition. If interested in performing, working back stage, or being a part of the tech crew, please email Mrs. Koglin, CCA’s Music Teacher, at kkoglin@capecodacademy.org.

Ski Trip to Mount Sunapee
Saturday, February 26, 2022
|
|
All Cape Cod Academy students and skill levels are invited to join families on a ski trip to Mount Sunapee on February 26th. Graciously arranged by a CCA parent, John Daigle, this trip provides for 50 individuals (first come, first served) to ride a coach bus from CCA to Mount Sunapee. The bus will leave CCA at 5:30 a.m. and return to the campus at approximately 8:00 p.m. The travel cost is $54. Individuals attending must purchase their own lift tickets and arrange for ski equipment rentals if needed.
Again, this is not a CCA-sponsored event, so if you have any questions, please contact John Daigle directly via email: jdaigle@menemshasolutions.com.

CCA's Winterim is Coming
Cape Cod Academy is excited to launch its Winterim, a four-day program held between semesters when students take a break from the classroom to explore an area of interest in one of five areas: Health and Wellness, Academic Study, Outdoor Adventure, Service Learning, or Cultural Immersion. Winterim begins on Tuesday, January 18 and runs through Friday, January 21. Students choose their Winterim experience, and guided by local experts and faculty, engage in hands-on learning, creation, and field trips. The program culminates with a community event in which students showcase their work.

Weather Attire is Necessary for All Students
Please make sure that your child is wearing warm and appropriate clothing to school. We continue to go outside as often as possible and students need boots, snow pants, hats, mittens, and warm coats for the winter weather. They should also have shoes to change into instead of wearing their boots for the day. Extra clothes in backpacks is always a good idea at this time of the year with the unpredictable and ever-changing weather. As long as the wind chill temperature is above 21 degrees Fahrenheit, recess will be held outdoors.
Morning Drop-Off Guidelines
Please be cognizant of the schedule needs of others during early morning drop-off. If you need to exit your automobile, please pull into the parking lot and park so the line can keep moving. Waiting to open car doors until you reach the front of the school at the drop off point will keep the line moving. Remember that it is not safe to pass other cars in the traffic circle. The extra minute that you wait for the car ahead of you could prevent an accident. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
