COVID-19 Overview and Update

As of August 15, 2022, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts updated the guidance for COVID-19 isolation for children and staff K-12. Cape Cod Academy will follow these guidelines, which you can view here. Our guidelines are summarized below:

  1. Students and staff who test positive must isolate and remain home for at least 5 days. If they are asymptomatic or symptoms are resolving and they have been fever free without the use of fever-reducing medicine for 24 hours, they may return to school after Day 5 and should wear a high-quality mask through Day 10. If they test negative on Day 5, a mask is not required.
  2. To count days for isolation, Day 0 is the first day of symptoms OR the day the positive test was taken, whichever is earlier.
  3. Quarantine for exposure or close contact is no longer required. If the exposed student/ staff have no symptoms, they can attend class but are asked to wear a high-quality mask for 10 days.
  4. In school, COVID-19 testing ended this past June.

Important Arrival & Dismissal Information

Lower School

Arrival
Parents may drop off children either at the curbside in the circle at the school's front entrance, or you may park and walk your children into the building. When dropping off your child, please pull all the way up in the circle. At curbside, please have your child exit the right side of your vehicle. Drivers, please do not exit your car.

Please do not pass other vehicles in the traffic circle, and exercise patience. If you are in a hurry, please feel free to park in the parking lot and walk your child into school. Parents who walk their children into the building should park in the lower school parking lot (adjacent to the playground) or in the senior parking lot (the lot is directly on the left as you drive in the main entrance). Please note that the upper circle is for lower school drop-off, and the lower circle by the science building is for middle and upper school drop-off.

Lower school students may enter the building as early as 7:40 a.m. and should check-in when they arrive. Students have the option of going outside to the playground or to the library.

Dismissal
The school day ends at 3:00 p.m. Unless a child is enrolled in and participating in a school-sponsored extracurricular program, lower school students may not remain on campus without a parent after the school day concludes. As with drop-off, please exercise patience and do not pass other vehicles in the traffic circle. Drivers, please do not exit your car. If you are in a hurry, please feel free to park in the parking lot and come into school to collect your child.

Middle School & Upper School
Arrival
Students should be dropped off in the lower circle drive by the entrance to Founders Hall (gymnasium building). Parents are asked to pull forward as far as possible before dropping students off. This helps to keep the drop-off circle safe during this busy time of day. Students who drive should park in the assigned student parking lot. Any student who arrives at school after 8:00 a.m. must report to the reception desk to sign in.

Dismissal
Students may be picked up in the lower circle by the entrance to Founders Hall or with their lower school siblings at the school's front entrance.
Extended Day Program for Lower School

Cape Cod Academy is pleased to officially launch our Extended Day Program for students in kindergarten through grade 5 beginning on Monday, September 12. Led by Coach Katherine Marvullo, Lower School P.E. Instructor, and Erika Fernandes, Lower School Science Teacher, this program will run Monday - Friday from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. during the entire school year.

Activities will promote physical and social health in a fun and structured environment and include outdoor, hands-on activities like gardening, birding, and fun with water. Each day, there will be time allotted for decompression and homework.

Students can register to participate on a daily, monthly, or semester basis by signing up via our registration system. Click on one of the links below.

FACULTY SPOTLIGHT
My name is Michael McCartney and I'm excited to join the CCA English Faculty for my 17th year of teaching. Before coming to CCA, I worked at The Maine School of Science and Mathematics (MSSM) in Limestone, Maine - one of only a handful of public, boarding, magnet schools in the United States. In my 15 happy years at MSSM, I served as Assistant Dean of Students, Director of College Counseling, and English Department Chair, while teaching English and History. Having spent a while abroad at Oxford, I'm deeply committed to international education and have taken many of my students to England, Scotland, Ireland, and Peru. I was fortunate enough to be named the 2016 Aroostook County Teacher of the Year and 2017 Semi-Finalist for Maine State Teacher of the Year. I also once earned a Diploma of Wizardry from a mysterious shop in Stratford-Upon-Avon.

Just before the pandemic, my family and I relocated to Forestdale with our many eccentric pets. For the past few years, I've taught online while keeping my eye out for any openings at CCA! I'm so excited to be joining this small, tight-knit community of people who seem eager to learn and take care of one another as we try to figure out this thing we call life.

In my free time, I enjoy stories (whether hearing, telling, reading, watching, playing, or writing them), travel (with students and family), acting, playing Dungeons and Dragons with colleagues and students, and endlessly putting the finishing touches on that novel of mine - usually while drinking endless cups of tea.
