A weekly update for
Cape Cod Academy families

ALL-SCHOOL NEWS
The First Lady of Massachusetts Visits CCA
Today, Cape Cod Academy welcomed Lauren Baker, the First Lady of Massachusetts, to our school. As First Lady, Lauren is working with the Wonderfund, a nonprofit that serves children engaged with the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families (DCF), and whose mission is to provide help to children in traumatic situations. Ms. Baker began her visit to Cape Cod Academy by working with our fourth-grade students to assemble special care packages for children served by DCF through the Wonderfund in Hyannis. She then had lunch with members of our Community Services Organization where she discussed her important work. Afterwards, she spoke to middle and upper school students about philanthropy and local community service.

In-Person Parent-Teacher Conferences are Next Week

In-person parent-teacher conferences are taking place next Thursday and Friday. There is no school on either of those days for all students, K through Grade 12. Short-term child care will be available all day on a drop-off basis for lower school students during the time that you are on campus for your conferences.

Conferences with lower school homeroom teachers are 20 minutes each. Middle and upper school parent-teacher conferences are 10 minutes each with a five-minute travel break between slots. A campus map is available here.

Conference scheduling is now open so please make your appointments via the instructions below:
  • Log in to the school website and select the "Resources" tab at the top of the page.
  • Click on the "Parent-Teacher Conference Sign-up" channel. This will open a page with your child's name and the names of your child’s teachers.
  • Select the color-coded block with your preferred meeting time for a particular teacher and click "Create Appointment."
  • Repeat for each teacher with whom you would like to meet. It is not necessary to schedule an appointment with every teacher, but you are welcome to do so as space allows.
  • Once you have completed your schedule, you may print a copy or email it to yourself.
  • If you'd like to make changes to your schedule at a later date, you may log in again, select "Your Schedule" and follow the prompts. The scheduling system will close on Wednesday, October 27 at 7:00 p.m.
If you need help logging on to the website or have any difficulties setting up your appointments, please call the school at 508-428-5400 and ask for Katie Newhall. If you need to change your appointment, please contact Katie; if on the day of your conference you need to cancel your appointment for any reason, please contact the teacher directly. If you are unable to attend an in-person conference, please contact the teacher directly to make alternative plans.
Please Sign Up for 'Lunch on Us' as Part of
Teacher Appreciation

Lunch on Us is a long-standing tradition at Cape Cod Academy. During parent-teacher conferences, families provide lunches for faculty and staff during these very busy days. This fall, parent-teacher conferences will be held on Thursday, October 28, and Friday, October 29.

We are asking for volunteers to supply 4-5 bagged lunches each for Thursday, October 28th only. For allergy reasons and the ease of "grabbing and going", please write what is included on the outside of the lunch bag. For example, write: "soup, salad, or sandwich with fruit, chips, or cookie, and a beverage". Gluten and vegetarian options are also appreciated. Lunches should be dropped off by 11:30 a.m. on October 28 in the cooler located in the reception area in Chope Commons.

If you are able to participate, please RSVP here and include in the comments how many lunches you are able to provide so that we can be sure we have enough for everyone. This tradition is deeply appreciated by the teachers. Thank you for your support.
Halloween Festivities
Halloween has traditionally been celebrated school wide, and we are excited to continue the tradition next week.

Lower School Student Guidelines
On Wednesday, October 27, lower school students will have their traditional Halloween parade at 1:45 p.m. Masks must be worn (not the scary kind, but the ones that protect against COVID-19). Costumes must NOT be worn to school. They must be able to be worn over clothing to eliminate the need for wardrobe changes. Wardrobe changes are not allowed due to limited changing facilities. Costumes must be appropriate.

Traditional classroom parties with parents in attendance are welcome. Room parents are working on special activities for students to complete in their rooms or outside to celebrate the day. Room parents will coordinate with the teachers.

Middle and Upper School Student Guidelines
On Wednesday, October 27 during lunch, we will hold a costume contest for middle and upper school students. Students who want to participate in the costume contest should be in Davis Commons during lunch time.
Everyone is invited to Trunk or Treat on Saturday, October 30.
STEM Pumpkin Races

Mr. Sears, CCA's STEM Curriculum Coordinator, is hosting a fun community STEM event called Pumpkin Races next week. All students in grades K - 12 are invited to submit a pumpkin racer for this event. There will be multiple prizes for different categories for each division, such as the fastest, scariest, Seahawk Pride, superhero, and best overall theme. Read details here.
School Photos Are Now Available for Order

Individual school photos are now available to order. Ordering instructions are being sent home today with your child. All photos must be ordered online on the Studio by the Sea website. Log onto the website and scroll down to "find online school photos to view and order here." Click that link, select Cape Cod Academy in the drop-down box, and enter your username and password from the order form that was sent home with your child to log in.
Lunch Deliveries Are Back

Students interested in ordering lunch from outside vendors, such as Grub Hub, Pizza 1 Subs 2, etc., are now allowed to do so. Middle and upper school students must order online and pay the full amount, plus tip, in advance of delivery. Parents of lower school students are also invited to participate but must ensure their child's lunch is paid for in advance of delivery. This is a no-cash program. All food vendors must deliver food orders to the main office where students will collect their lunch. Please make sure food is delivered in a timely manner so students can eat during their lunch periods.
College Night Was Well Attended

Thank you to the many parents and guardians of 7th- to 12th- grade students who joined us yesterday for College Night. Meg Farley, CCA's Director of College Counseling, along with faculty and administrators, led an important discussion about CCA's unique approach to the college process that begins in middle school through the application, acceptance, and decision-making process for juniors and seniors. As a result of this dedicated process, our seniors are well-prepared.
