SEP/AUG 2021
Greetings Fellow Americans,
Dear Readers,
I am sorry that we were not able to get out a September Newsletter. There have been some health issues, but the newsletter still should have gone out.

We could certainly use some more volunteers. Many hands make light work. Please contact me if you want to help.

We need help by persons with business experience to get us in a storefront.

I have a WWII book, it is an album. The book lists the occurrences of each day of the conflict. I would love to give the book to someone and have them pick an event of the day, eighty years ago, find photo that illustrates the event and post it on our Facebook page. Today is the 25th of Oct. Off the coast of North Africa, German submarine U-331 sank the British Battleship Barham with the loss of 868 souls. This was a huge event at the time, but has been forgotten over time. A photo of the ship and the event data would make a great post. I think post like this would keep readers interested in our page!

We need persons to inventory and organize a portion of our collection before it goes into storage facility. Our Secretary has come up with a partial solution to our stowage issues.

We need a replacement Secretary. Record meeting minutes, communications, record keeping are the main responsibilities.

I have quite a few saved digital photographs that need to be printed out so we have a hard copy for displays etc. Some of the images could be modified to improve the quality of the image (photos from books and newspapers)It is expensive to have the hard copies made though digital coupons help. Any photo bugs?

There were colored (African American) units on Camp Edwards, including the the famous 369th Harlem Hellfighters. We could use a couple of dedicated researchers to help us learn about their stories.

There were 42 anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalions trained here. There histories need to be researched and added to our collection.

We have 503C status. Fundraising is needed desperately. Grants? Corporate donations? If you can't help our cause with your time, perhaps your would consider making a donation? Click on the button below to help out.

MUSEUM HAPPENINGS
UPCOMING LECTURES CAMP
UPCOMING LECTURES

Mark Romboli, a new volunteer, has booked me to speak in front of a men's club luncheon on November 10th. The lecture is going to be D-Day and it's ties to Cape Cod. I really appreciate Him doing this for the Museum, this is a great opportunity to get our message out in front of connected local people.

Fort Taber/Fort Rodman one of our sister museums has asked me to come down and help them commemorate Veterans Day with my lecture The Use of Animals in WWI. I know is is a hike but if you have not been the museum is worth the trip. It is a really fascinating story too:)

Our Waquoit Bay/Amphibious Corps researcher, Neil Good, alerted me to a photo of an African American Engineer Battalion's graduation photo up for online auction by Max Rambod Rare Books based in Conn. I tried to bid, but it was already sold. I let the matter drop. Neil contacted Max Rambod, they graciously agreed to give us there high definition scan of the original photo. I took the money from the Gunpowder and Grease paint lecture and had two 14X12 copies made. I picked up a couple of plastic frames for the photos. Why two? We are going to donate one to Zion Union Heritage Museum Hyannis. This museum celebrates the African American and Cape Verdean history on the Cape.

MUSEUM NEWS
I have to re-edit my D-Day and it's ties to Cape Cod lecture as I am always learning of new connections. Once I have finished that, I HAVE,HAVE, to put together our photo lecture THE YANKEE DIVISION IN WWII! I have read several memoirs by members of the 26th, combined with the information gleaned from the unit's history has given me a good frame work to flesh out for the lecture. If any readers have stories/photos about the YD. Please send them to me. This photo lecture should be popular because of the YD members and their descedants on the Cape. Here are some photos that will be in the lecture.
