Events included in this publication must occur within six weeks of the publication date and fall under one or more of the following criteria: create opportunity for overnight stays, influx of visitors to the area, and opportunity for increased business traffic.

Total Solar Eclipse

Cape Girardeau and the surrounding areas are in a prime location for totality. Cape Girardeau will have over 4 minutes of darkness during the eclipse and many, many visitors will travel far and wide to experience the celestial event in Southeast Missouri. In 2017, during the last Great American Eclipse, approximately 11,000 viewers experienced the phenomenon between River Campus, Houck Stadium, and the SportsPlex. Here are a few Eclipse viewing events for 2024:

SEMO Food Bank - Pack & Sort Food
Ongoing volunteer opportunities available at 9 AM and 1 PM Tues-Fri.
@ SEMO Food Bank - Cape County Volunteer Center
Volunteers at the food bank's Cape County location primarily will pack food for the the Backpacks for Friday program, which provides more than 1,100 students with food for the weekend during the school year. Volunteers may also sort donated items or other projects as needed. Volunteers may sign up for available opportunities online at the link below.
