CTE NEWSLETTER

March 2023

Though Winter hasn’t quite made its final exit, we are quickly approaching the start of spring. As we look forward to the coming months, we're looking for your input to our 2023-2024 programming and we invite you to complete our Faculty Needs Assessment. It’s a short 15-minute survey, which will provide us with a wealth of information for our planning!

We’re also excited to invite you to submit your proposal for the 2023 CapU Teaching & Learning Symposium! The theme this year is “Centering Health and Wellness in Teaching and Learning” and proposals are due March 21st, so don’t wait to get started! A new format this year is the 15-minute Round Table sessions!

As you prepare your proposal, here’s some suggested resources in line with our theme:

Moodle/eLearn Upgrade – May 1, 2023

At the end of the Spring term, on May 1st 2023, CapU will be updating its eLearn platform to Moodle 4.1. This is a major upgrade that will change the layout of your course and add some new features. What does this mean for your course?

Here are some suggestions to help you prepare for the switch:

Course: Introduction to eLearn, Topic: Strategies for Adapting to 4.1 (capu.ca)

To help with the transition to this new version of eLearn, the CTE will be holding a series of online drop-in workshops from noon to 1pm on the following dates:

  • March 15, 2023
  • March 29, 2023
  • April 12, 2023
  • April 26, 2023

We’ll take a look at your course in the new format and talk about strategies for working with the new layout and features. If you’d like to join us, email edtech@capilanou.ca for the Zoom link.

Access to the Dev Server

If you would like access to the development server to check out your course before May 1st (for testing purposes only) send a request to askIT@capilanou.ca

International Women’s Day

March 8th marks International Women's Day. This year's theme is #EmbraceEquity. Education is a recognized driver of equity for women and girls. If you're wondering about how you might centre women experts in your course readings or how you might incorporate topics that highlight the role women have played in your field, book a consultation with us. We can provide you with resources, help you identify your priorities, and walk you through implementation of small scale changes towards your #EmbraceEquity goals.
