November 2020
This marks the beginning of an important week of learning with Capilano University’s Truth and Reconciliation activities. We hope you are able to join some of the events this week planned by Indigenous Education and Affairs. This is also Open Classroom week - an opportunity to discover what your colleagues are doing in both their synchronous and asynchronous courses. We have 14 classes open this week for you to visit. Join one or all and reflect on what aspects can be incorporated into your own teaching. Thank you to the generous faculty who have opened their virtual doors!

Open Ed @ CapU

Who is using open resources at CapU?
The visibility of Open on campus is growing, from Chemistry to Psychology, Women’s and Gender Studies to Statistics.

  • In 2020 alone, over 25 courses at Capilano used Open Educational Resources
  • This resulted in savings of $123,200 for more than 850 students

Take a look at which courses currently use open textbooks at CapU.

Thank You to our CTE Ambassadors!

Did you know that we have 20 CTE Ambassadors representing all the different Schools at Cap?
You may have seen one of them giving an update on CTE initiatives and workshops at your recent department meeting. But were you aware that they also connect with CTE on challenges, suggestions and concerns specifically in your area? We want to extend a huge THANK YOU to all our ambassadors for playing this important role in liaising with CTE and making sure we connect with as many faculty members as possible.

Updates: the Teaching & Learning Advisory Committee

The Teaching and Learning Advisory Committee provides a forum for discussion on the issues related to teaching and learning enhancement and a campus culture that recognizes, promotes, and celebrates effectiveness in teaching and learning. Advice and recommendations are provided to the Centre for Teaching Excellence, the Senate Subcommittee on Teaching and Learning, the Educational Technology Advisory Committee, and the University as whole as appropriate.  There are representative members from all faculties as well as the CFA, Indigenous Education and Affairs, and a student representative. The first meeting of the committee is on November 4th. Please contact Brit if you’re interested in joining or finding out more.
