MCDOT Awarded $250,000 for North Bethesda Development Project

The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) has awarded MCDOT $250,000 to support Project Connect. This development is envisioned as a 13.9-acre, mixed-use community hub located by the North Bethesda Metro Station, with housing, shopping and entertainment, anchored by employers of the county’s growing life sciences industry and accessible through public transportation and pedestrian and bicycle pathways.

Project Connect aims to bring new housing, retail and public spaces to the area while improving pedestrian, bike and transit access. Plans include a new northern entrance to the North Bethesda Metro station and infrastructure for the future MD 355 Flash Bus Rapid Transit line.

The project is being developed in partnership with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority and MDOT, with completion anticipated in 2030.

Plan a Safer Walk to School: Explore MCDOT’s Safe Routes to School Resources

With the school year around the corner, walking or biking there should be fun — and safe. That’s the goal of Montgomery County’s Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program, which helps students get to school safely while building healthy habits from an early age.

Parents, your involvement can make a real difference. By participating in SRTS, you help:

  • Enhance student safety and well-being.
  • Reduce traffic congestion near schools.
  • Improve air quality and support a healthier community.

This year, a new School Pool Program can help families in the same neighborhoods connect to form carpools, walking groups, or biking groups to and from school. Learn more and find your match here.

Let’s work together to build safer streets, encourage active lifestyles, and make the school commute something to look forward to!

Ride On Route 41 Schedule Change Starts September 7

Beginning Sunday, September 7, 2025, MCDOT will adjust the Ride On Route 41 schedule to improve service reliability and on-time performance. Updated schedules are available now here.

This update follows the County’s recent zero-fare policy—in effect since June 29—for all Ride On, Ride On extRa, Ride On Flex, and Flash buses, making public transit more accessible for residents.

Plan your trip at RideOnBus.com or on the free Ride On Trip Planner app.

Ride On Expands Use of Solar-Powered Real-Time Bus Info Monitors

MCDOT has installed 65 solar-powered, real-time bus arrival displays at high-ridership bus stops and transit centers, with more planned in 2025. These new Connectpoint ePaper Digital Bus Stop Screens provide up-to-the-minute arrival info, day or night, without relying on printed schedules or mobile apps.

Each screen includes a “touch to talk” Falcon Text-to-Speech button, which offers real-time audible updates in multiple languages, enhancing accessibility for visually impaired riders. Both the screens and the Falcon buttons are solar powered, weather resistant and remotely monitored to ensure consistent service.

This upgrade is part of MCDOT’s commitment to a safer, smarter and more inclusive transit experience for all.

Phase Two of Summer Construction Underway on the Green Line

Metro’s Summer 2025 Major Construction project wraps up this month. Phase One, completed in July, focused on Blue Line construction. This month, there will be key station closures and service changes to the Green Line to complete critical upgrades and improve your ride.

Phase Two: August 2–31

  • Green Line closures include Branch Ave., Suitland, and Naylor Road stations.
  • Additional weekend closures are planned August 9–10 and 16–17 for Congress Heights and Southern Avenue.
