Emma Chard has been hired as the new Varsity Swimming Head Coach at Capital High
School.
Coach Chard grew up in Tacoma, Washington where she took home the 100 yard freestyle state title and 2nd in the 100 yard breaststroke her senior year in high school. She also qualified four times for the USA swimming national championships.
Her hard work and perseverance earned her a full ride scholarship to Boise State University, where she graduated in May of 2018 with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies.
During her freshman year at Boise State, she earned 2nd place in the 200 yard freestyle at the Mountain West Championships and went on to win that event three years in a row, earning her a spot at the Division 1 NCAA Swimming championships her sophomore and junior year. She also competed in the 500 yard freestyle, winning it her senior year at the Mountain West championships, as well as competing in the mile.
Emma currently holds Boise State school records in the 200, 500, 1000, 1650 yard freestyle, as well as a part of the 800 yard freestyle relay. Being a 2017 World Championship Trials participant and a 2016 US Open participant, Emma also qualified for the 2016 US Olympic Trials in the 200 meter freestyle where she placed 50th out of 200 swimmers in that event. She also has dual citizenship with the UK and was able to compete at the UK Olympic trials in 2016, where she placed 15th overall in the 400 meter freestyle.
Coach Chard is excited to get back to the sport she will forever love as the new head coach of Capital and cannot wait to help the school and athletes be successful.
